I'd have assumed that was one of the Flexcut carvers from the photo, but I'm not entirely sure.

IIRC, Nomad Bushcraft were seeling some at the Wilderness Gathering.

    Mad Dave's Five Hour Forge

Missed this the first time round... For longish objects (like blades), I've got a similar forge - albeit side draft - with deep notches cut out of the front & back, so I can build a good bed of fuel over a trench for the beasty. Remember that in supposedly smelling gas, you aren't smelling...

What kind of shoes do you use?

When they start curling over the front of the sandals, that might be a hint? :D

What kind of shoes do you use?

That one made me flinch... If your toenails are long, cut the damn things! Beats the pain of having the nail forced backwards into the toe. (All the Gore Tex boot linings I've seen have had the membrane protected too.) I'm a bit of a zealot on looking after your feet - it doesn't matter...

Do you know a knife maker?

There are also a lot of makers with high demand. Doesn't make them slow. We are not talking a production line here - if you commission a maker to make a knife for you, then it is not unreasonable for them to ask for a deposit. OK, so if you change your mind later they still have a knife...

Weren't rubber O rings, were they? In a petroleum solvent? Viton O rings might be a better bet for that application.

Using Adblock under Firefox - no problems at all. Blocking http://*.adbrite.* http://*.doubleclick.* http://*.revenue.* http://*.paypopup.* (and yes, my AV software is up-to-date & hasn't flagged anything) If you want a post brought to the attention of the mods, use the "Report...

    more woodstoves

6Al4V is used on some climbing gear AIUI due to it's strength; honestly haven't a clue what the cooksets would be made from! Lots of alloys - either a) which is cheapest or b) which the factory is geared to use. (Although I can probably tell you what stainless your kitchen cookware is :) )...

    more woodstoves

The cheapest. CP (commercially pure) is about the most malleable, but Ti is one that makes a lot of stainless steels look easy to work.

    Belated hello and Username Explanation!

Hi Silverback, welcome aboard. Really nice knife you've displayed elsewhere; a lovely piece. Martin, did you ever train with Pete Farrar? (or am I showing my age?!)

So not really that different to a power tool "manual" present day then? :) (Yes, I know how to avoid decapitating, electrocuting or otherwise inconveniencing myself with this tool, all I want to know is how to adjust it!!!)

    wild Berrys

Before hops were readily available, all sorts of things were added to beer to help preserve it - including heather. I can find an awful lot of recipes for ales that use a lot of hops, too :) Here's a good site on various beers & related (including meads, melomels, sake and other fermented...

That sounds fun. What sort of quantity of sloes to the 2l? As for chocolate & sloes - tried it, but another time I'll stone the sloes first. Wish I could find an easy way to do that...

    Arrrr looking for good grog

I found the spiced rum absolutely revolting, and normally I'll drink more-or-less anything (except retsina). Pusser's rum is wonderful stuff...
