    Are Good Manners Dying?

For those bashing the youth, I find it is the old that are worst, they push past you expect you to give way and at the moment when we are trying to be Covid secure get far too close. They also seem to think that they don’t need to use manners or a polite to e when they speak. Sent from my...

    Roll/sleep mats

I have an old Thermarest which is pretty good. I also have a Costco one which is quite bulky and leaks. But because it has a foam core, it is still comfortable when deflated. The leak is around the valve so I can’t fix it. If I saw them in Costco again I would probably get another one, but it...

    Time to Update Down Jacket

I’m curious whether the new jackets are significantly better, not as bulky just as warm, waterproof etc. I only tend to wear the Rab when it is dry and cold, so being able to wear it when it’s cold and damp might be an improvement. Sent using Tapatalk

    Time to Update Down Jacket

Hi all, I’m wondering if it is time to update my down jacket? I have a Rab Extreme Peak 1/4 zip overhead jacket that is in immaculate condition. I also have a Buffalo SP6 and Rab Vapourise Shirt and a Rab BAS Arctic Parka. I don’t plan on going anywhere and the only new requirement will be...

What to do with old screws?

Have you got any small black flat blade screws? About 4mm diameter and 10mm long? Need some for my door handles. Happy to pay for them and postage, of course. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Hammock under quilt

Have a look at the Hennessey system, it is essentially a thin foam layer, inside a wind proof cover, apparently works well. I think to go up a level there is a space blanket too. Sent using Tapatalk

    What Three Words

I have the app, we discuss it with the Scouts. Have you seen the TV add? The chap who rings for help is on the shoreline in a Canoe, the square highlighted isn’t.. Sent using Tapatalk

So who owns a Caravan and what have you got ?

Ex Caravaner, we had a Swift Charisma 570, until the Pikeys helped themselves to it. Still have the metal ladder for the 6th bunk in the loft. To be honest, don’t miss it as the last couple of holidays were rainy fortnights in Cornwall. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Framed packs

I remember mine as a scout. No hip belt, my brothers did have but it was nylon webbing so dug in to his hips. I bought a Berghaus Cyclops Roc as soon as I could, couldn’t give the frame rucksack away! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Map cases

Rather than carry a map, I tend to print the section I need on A4 paper. Saves risking a map with the scouts and mean they won’t damage it when marking their route. Good tip about removing the cover though, especially if you need to carry the full map in case of diversions. In terms of map...

    Woollen blanket problems

Can anyone else smell him on the blanket, sometime the smell remains because you think it does. Certain things can evoke a memory and that can include the smell. For me the smell of hot buttered popcorn evokes a memory of something I saw, if I see something similar or think about what I saw I...

    £300 plus knife ? ?

I won a S4 clone from Mark Hill in a raffle, which I think he sells for around £400. My wife doesn’t understand why anyone would pay that for a knife, I don’t understand why she pays so much for handbags. I use it, it might not be used to open cans like my Opinel, but I would be more upset if...

Guided sharpening systems - user feedback? Likes, Dislikes?

I have the Lansky system and use it to sharpen most of my knives, it isn’t brilliant for the larger knives but for pocket knives and my 4 inch fixed blades it’s great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    DD underblanket compatibility

I have a Hennessey Explorer and use a DD under blanket, it can be a little more challenging getting it in to the correct place, but it does the job. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Hammock Differences

Hennessy is a complete set up, you get the tarp and snake skins as well as the hammock. DD you need to buy a tarp separately, which does give you more flexibility and if you want snake skins, an easier way of packing it away We use the basic DD Hammock for the scouts and it is an easy and cheap...

    Ground Mat Recommendations

I have the Hennessy bubble pad, I wouldn’t want to use it for sleeping on the ground. You can get a cheap inflatable mat from GoOutdoors etc, and if you want the reflective, use a space blanket. Sent using Tapatalk

Best base layers for softshells or Paramo?

I had some really good M&S boxers, they were a shiny material that wicked/had odour control. I also have several t-shirts also from M&S and made from the same material. I tend to wear them as my base layer in autumn and under my buffalo/RAB Vapourise. Sent using Tapatalk
