I finished stitching the sheath, I’ll get some beeswax to it later. It’s been an interesting project, read a fair bit about the knives and the people that designed and used them.

Day Out West Highland Way: Highland Fling

It was a good slog up (glad we weren't going up from the Balmaha side!) there were a few fallers with cuts and bruises coming down to the checkpoint, but some great views over to the islands.

Its been awhile sonce i got a chance to do anything on this knife project, but this is what I’ve done so far. The blade is getting slowly polished, the handle from an old file handle is beilg carved then sanded. Its starting to look more like the picture in Wikipedia, but still some way to go

Are you making any plans for the Snow?

Only person in the team at work, most of the patients cant get in, so there will be a lot to do next week. I'm only a kilometre from the hospital so it was easy to trudge in, colleagues outside Edinburgh can get out of driveways, no transport options, so advice is to stay put.

Natural medicine from plants in the UK

A couple of days ago, i asked our pharmacy team to check about licquorice interactions with one of the newer targeted compounds we are trialling in cancer, they produced a fair bit of information for me. We’re always asking patients for lists of herbal items they are taking to check for...

    Char cloth

Ive make the sulpher spills from sulpher from the garden centre, its in granules and melts well, with a bit of care and ventilation, works fine in conjunction with charcloth. I got some old army surplus cigarette tubes to keep them in. The main issue is it seems to have an almost invisible...

    Blood pressure monitors

I use an AND model ua-767 digital sphyg at home, works fine. Its a similar model to the ones i give out to patients when we’re doing extended bp records. It is the trend over time rsther than a one off recording, so i do use an app iBP on my iphone to graph my own recordings, i can print it off...

It's that time of year again. Lighting the woodburner....

I do this for the first fire of the autumn, we get it going with flint, steel and charcloth.. After that, its whatever the person fancies, but its a nice opportunity..
