    Zebra billy. 14 or 16cm?

You're supposed to at least stun your food before cooking it you know

    Small hatchet

I see your location is Wales. If you're anywhere near Crickhowell there's a charity based there called Tools For Self Reliance and they usually have a decent stock of restored hatchets and axes.

Ghillie kettle is going to get on the telly.

Sorry I missed this. It was the Easter 2016 group buy I think. It's a pin hole leak in the base seam I think but it only really shows when it gets hot and water starts to bubble out of it. It's never affected the function but if there was an easy way to fix it I might have a go.

Ghillie kettle is going to get on the telly.

Will it explain why mine seems to leak around the base a bit?

    Displaying my Cowrie collection.

New acrylic can be expensive but charity shops are full of old picture frames with acrylic 'glass'. Find one big enough or too big with removable acrylic and cut it down to size.

    For Sale Terävä Jääkäripuukko

Don't you have to buy the sheath separately as well though?

    Displaying my Cowrie collection.

How about a modern take on the old taxidermy displays where you recreate the natural environment for the shells? I had a bunch of driftwood bits kicking about waiting for a project so I piled them on the window cill, added some air plants and a wooden bird and it makes a nice display. The plants...

An evening walk in the wood

The BTO are running a citizen science survey asking people to record calling tawny owls at the moment if you're interested.

    Danger tinder

This was the same box back when I checked it in spring 2016. I was really impressed that mice found a home that high up a tree and they'd even dragged all those leaves in there. It was still cold at the time so I left them in there but they left the box in a real mess by the time I evicted them...

    Danger tinder

I'm not sure. The box is hung four metres up a large oak tree but I still find wood mice in there now and then. I'm suspecting birds though given how it was shredded so much. A small woodpecker could probably reach that far in but if the nest was finished then it might just have been a small...

Tarp recommendation for occasional shelter use, not sleeping

I picked up a Helikon Tex poncho for similar use. It also has the advantage that you can wear it over a rucksac if you get caught in the rain. I think it's about 2mx1.5m when flat so pretty managable as a quick tarp.

    Danger tinder

It's that time of year again when all the bird boxes need emptying out and cleaning. Most of mine are near houses which makes them easy to maintain but I've got a group of 6 in an area of woodland that have to be cleaned in situ. I try to pick a mild day to do it in case I have to evict any...

    Monocular?

I've got a 10x Opticron T3 monocular and it's great for the price, I'd highly recommend it if you don't need high end optics or a lot of low level light use. I chuck it in my pocket when walking and forget it's there most of the time. I paid about £25 for it and it's a really well built bit of...

    Family Vehicle?

I've got a Bongo and my local parts place can get most parts next or even same day. It's not a great vehicle though. If I could afford a VW with the same features I'd ditch it straight away. I think mine is a pretty poor example but I haven't found a local garage yet that knows how to do the...

    Fake Kånken backpacks / Fjällräven

Decathlon are one of the supermarkets of the outdoor gear world, I'm sure their bags are fine, they look fine. I get my meat from the local butcher, proper cuts of meat, sausages to his own recipe, award winning faggots and all sourced from local farms. I could get meat from Tesco for a lot less...

    Fake Kånken backpacks / Fjällräven

Yeah that's not quite how RRP works. If a Kanken bag is £75 RRP with 'free delivery' then £12.50 of that is VAT right away. The delivery cost to you is also built into that price. Then you have retailer's costs and profit. Manufacture and shipping. Reseach and development. Marketing. Years of...

    Fake Kånken backpacks / Fjällräven

There's some good guides to detecting fakes on Youtube etc. Apparently even Fjallraven can't tell that some are fake though. There's also the problem now that people are selling fakes second hand as genuine. Buy one genuine bag and use the 'proof of purchase' to sell the fakes kind of scam. I...

    gloves?

I use mechanix classic gloves for working on cars and they really are excellent for that. They've saved me from a lot of smacks and scrapes and the dexterity is good enough to pick up washers and deal with small bolts etc. I've only ruined one pair so far which caught fire while I was grinding...
