    Folding knife suggestions ?

Going right back to the OP, you have to be realistic about the limitations of a folding knife. If a folding knife is closing up on you while you’re using it then it may be advisable to put less force on the blade, make smaller cuts or change the way you’re using it entirely. Apply enough force...

    Keeping ticks.

The research and reporting is nothing to do with your GP, it is done through the HSA and you’re absolutely right in saying that you can already be extremely ill before the results are back from screening the tick that bit you… however since it takes some people years to get a definitive...

    Keeping ticks.

Not every retired GP is up on all the facts. Surprisingly my GP was unaware if the dangers posed by tick bites and it caused quite a commotion when he had to use his Google-fu to find out more. I ended up on some of the most massive doses of psychosis inducing antibiotics that can be given by...

    Tick removal

It was explained to me that a tick has three moving parts to its jaw and rotating it forces it to release its hold. I’ve been using tick tools similar to those in the OP’s photograph for some years on everything from dogs to hedgehogs and I will probably continue to rotate the ticks to force...

    Still no hornets.

We have an area of willow that attracts aphids which in turn attract wasps that are predated by hornets. It may be a little early to see them here in any numbers but I have seen a couple of queens. While most people find them unnerving I have never been stung by one and find them fascinating.

Waxed cotton fabric, I’m not sure how much there is or how wide it is but it’s unused British made old fashioned wax cotton as used by Belstaff back in the 80’s.

Swopping over to natural wool bedding.

Wool mattress made by a UK firm plus a mattress topper and duvet made by a firm called Baa-vet. Like you say, not a cheap option but worth it in my opinion.

Where are all the Laplander blades?

I contacted Bacho about an order of Laplander blades in March, they’re currently out of stock. There is a blade available that doesn’t have the dark coating which will fit the Laplander but the teeth are slightly different and it’s fractions of a millimetre thinner. Bacho could not tell me when...

I found an axe head. Need advice. Pic heavy.

I did an Army clasp knife with that method that started off looking like a potato made of rust. My difficulty was finding enough metal to make an electrical contact…I forgot to mention, only use steel wire to connect the anode and cathode to the battery not copper wire unless you fancy a very...

    Limpets

Truthfully, I don’t know which is safer but I’ll take your word for it.

    Limpets

I’m guessing that people used to put up with a great deal more rubbery bits in order to get enough protein…not like us modern softies.

    Limpets

I’ve eaten and thoroughly enjoyed plenty of raw oysters but the idea of eating raw limpets never appealed to me

    Limpets

….I remember there being a lot more limpets as recently as 40 years ago.…It’s probably only my opinion but I blame the reduced numbers on pollution.

Who knows, the last crappy lump of rust that I cleaned up turned out to be a Gilpin.
