    £250 survival knife...

I definitely hear you Sidpost. I like the Skrama because it’s an immensely pleasing tool to use. When I used to cut Chestnut coppice with an old Elwell handbill, I soon found the Fiskars to be a better tool. But it still would get hung up in amongst the stems. Then the Skrama came along and...

    What are you currently reading?

I have a tin of these, they’re handy if you’re reading a book where you want to mark quotes or falling asleep in a complex bit. I’m reading a book on Jungian psychology, it’s got so many markers in it it would set off an airport alarm :D https://edcgear.co.uk/products/field-notes-tin-o-darts

Loose axe head magically fixes itself - Should I be worried?

Rather than make it sound as if you’re cleverly trying to use trickery as a means to an end, it’s perfectly legal to buy as many as you would like of anything online and return within 14 days. I’m not sure why you’d be advising anyone to try and get one over on the company?

    £250 survival knife...

Your fire steel scraper is on the butt of the handle. Glad you noticed the instant fit of it, they used to make a knife called a Rasul that everyone who held it just ‘got’. The M4 is the closest to that handle I’ve managed to find. Molletta, he designs a fine knife. I’m fairly sure I see a...

    £250 survival knife...

Chatting with Ian about usage and I said it was likely to get pummelled through things not far off the length of the blade at times, he went for strength behind the edge. I can see the attraction of that higher grind, but on the other hand I took out a fingernail sized chunk of blade on a BRKT...

    Camping gaz Globetrotter

Wanting to see which stove it is took me straight to this article on them, and a method of converting to run on standard gas cartridges. No idea if this helps. https://popupbackpacker.com/camping-gaz-globetrotter-stove-35-year-review/

Got my M4 in Maganacut convexed, just back from Longstrider. Lionsteel give you a lot of knife for the money, and they know how to make and design them. Before. After.

What fungi did you spot today?

If she’s anything like mine she’ll spit the mushroom and expect something nicer. And has a knack of getting it :rolleyes2:

BcUK Photograph of 2024 September Heat

Another slightly random pic but it’s all I’ve got. At least yours involved a pond @Kirsty  Found this little guy hopping through the dry grass in that very hot end of July weather. He’d have made it to the stream I’m sure but it was a long old hop so I popped him in my hand and let...

Do metals get old and weakened through time?

That is called ‘human fatigue’ and involves a softening of the brain when it’s bedtime. :)

Do metals get old and weakened through time?

Yes, it’s called metal fatigue, and it’s use rather than time. The same effect as the hardening of a bit of steel wire when bent back and forth. It hardens and snaps.

    Boiled eggs and coffee

I’m exactly the same. My sister came round the other day and I began grinding a delicious Peruvian washed Bourbon and Caturra, and she asked if I had any instant! Honestly, I flinched as if struck.
