    Alder catkins. Edible?

Licorice root works ok for teeth, tastes a bit nicer. Needs must I suppose.

    What did you forage today?

Egremont Russet apples. A great flavoured apple, with its history right here in Petworth, the family seat of the Egremonts. I wondered why I keep seeing these comparatively rare trees here.

    New Ray Mears series!

And The Herbs, gently educational. Many of todays children wouldn’t be able to identify or know how to use them. Or how to smoke a pipe ;)

    What did you buy today?

Ah, PF direct, came in at £37.18 delivered. https://www.pfedc.com/en-tr/collections/new Front flipper takes some getting used to, but it’s beautifully made. Impressed me enough to take some unboxing pics.

    Smart 'phone apps for bushcraft.

Too right. Apparently signing up for a free trial can prevented any legal arbitration in this case. And who actually does read it? https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2024/08/15/disney-wrongful-death-lawsuit-arbitration/74805949007/

    Smart 'phone apps for bushcraft.

I have Weather as a widget on my lock screen, along with 6 Music that then opens the BBC Sounds app. Moon cycle is the screensaver, torch and camera appear by default. Met Office and another weather app are in my Home Screen apps to compare with. I’ve also got insomnia, woke an hour ago...

    XL Secateurs

Not really answering your question T, but still got the Felcos I bought in 1987, they’ve done a LOT of work.

    Smart 'phone apps for bushcraft.

Such as the torch/camera led where an Android app for it is required according to the post above. I use Merlin and PlantNet the most, Star Walk occasionally. Also have an app that accompanies my trail cam so I can check it remotely, but I don’t use the camera very often. With Merlin I...

    Why a tarp?

Apart from the seams that’s a great picture showing the effectiveness of DPM camo. If it is DPM, I’m not up on camo types, but it’s the same as my Lowe Alpine Sting. Probably

New use for old toothpaste tube.

Yes I’ve heard of eczema. It makes more sense now knowing your usage, I assumed you meant useful as in a bushcraft scenario. It’s not something I ever use for anything.

New use for old toothpaste tube.

Not if it leaks, and it will, and it gets more liquid if warm. Is this a thing you do? How do you get all the residue off so the tape sticks properly? How much paper do you use to clean everything up, it must get everywhere? Probably a fair bit of hot water washing the stuff off your hands. I...

The 'I've found a bargain' thread

Glad to be of service, mine arrived today too :encourage: Anyone still going on about waiting weeks because it’s from China needs to take note, the shipping is quicker than a lot of U.K. sellers. I bought a 4000K and 5000K, I haven’t had a shine to see which I like best yet. One will end up...

    A Rethink of Green

That’s exactly what I did, it was a big box and I walked into town with the dog in the rain, no way I was carrying it back. I walked back with 2 packs of AAAs in a trouser pocket. We have a superb hardware shop, if they stocked a decent NiMh battery for the same price I’d have shopped there...

    A Rethink of Green

Picked up an IKEA package today. I ordered 8 AAA rechargeable batteries. You know, less waste etc. They arrived in a 45x45x10cm cardboard box! Unbelievable, I thought Amazon were bad, but I unwrapped these in the Co-op saying I didn’t want to carry the box home in the rain and both the cashiers...

    Starter catapult for child?

I’m assuming you mean off the shelf and not involving a rotary cutter, joining a catty forum and researching rubber, or even tying your own bands on? Wasp get great reviews from the catty crowd. I bought an Enzo off the back of recommendations here. Nice thing for your youngsters is you can put...
