    Cuts in difficult places!

Another product that is well known to stem bleeding from minor wounds in this way is baking soda. Best not try to stop the bleeding immediately because the act of bleeding is the body’s natural response to clean the wound. Unless you have a disorder like haemophilia or are on blood thinners it...

    Cuts in difficult places!

Let it bleed, it’ll stop eventually….one way or another

    Mice in Van (again)

It’s the time of year, anywhere undisturbed that is reasonably warm and sheltered will be fair game. They seem to delight in damaging anything valuable. I favour the old fashioned wooden little nipper traps baited with sultanas (pressed firmly onto the little spike so the mouse has to exert a...

    CO2 air rifles

Or you can simply put a stronger hammer spring in. To do so you will need to make a tubular tool that acts like a screwdriver to remove the hammer valve through the gas bulb reservoir. Do not discard the filter from the hammer valve whatever the online tutorials tell you or fragments of metal...

What are your favourite pocket knives?

Swiss Army knife or a WW2 era 3 part British Army clasp knife with black chequered scales, lambs foot blade, fid and can opener.

    Leaky gutters. Advice please.

All great advice, it only takes one blockage to cause an overflow. Partially clearing the gutters may not be enough, it needs doing completely. This time of year gutters often get clogged with falling leaves and moss off the roof and water will choose the next easiest path to escape. It sounds...

Shotguns - where to sell (Kent)

As long as the barrel isn’t choked any tighter than half then yes, it will shoot standard steel but that doesn't mean it’s proofed for steel giving it a correspondingly low resale value… Unless it’s a high quality gun it probably isn’t worth the RFD’s time doing the paper work and giving it...

    CO2 air rifles

SMK have improved a lot over the last few years though most won’t achieve much over 8.5 f/Lbs. They are however cheap, accurate and consistent. I have taken squirrels and rabbits with one without difficulty. I even managed to compete in an HFT comp with one and not look like a prat. The only...

Shotguns - where to sell (Kent)

Unless they’re proofed with a fleur de lys or the European CIP counterpart you may as well forget trying to sell them. What was a four or five hundred pound gun a couple of years ago sells at auction for a tenner (then the auction will take a lotting fee and commission leaving you about £2.50)...

What’s on your keyring (and do you use it?)

I don’t have room for additional junk on my key ring. With nine external doors as well as a multitude of sheds and gates all I have room for are keys.

    Banned dogs - thoughts

Yippee, more legislation, just what we all need…I’m actually getting pretty sick of an uninformed majority deciding what I can and can’t do “for my own good” The general public, a few lobbyists and some concerned organisations get asked a few leading questions and the government then acts on its...

    Bushcraft venues?

That’s probably true but traps are more effective than “crabbing”

    Bushcraft venues?

Exactly, once you have permission from the owner of the fishing rights you’re sorted. The landowner doesn’t necessarily own the fishing rights though. They can get separated from the land and become an asset on their own. re the crayfish trapping...

    Bushcraft venues?

I’m in mid wales but there are protected sites all over the UK

    Bushcraft venues?

No, it doesn’t follow that public land means public water. Everything is owned by someone. More to the point cray fishing requires a specific license and there are several protected species of crayfish. It is mainly the American signal crayfish that is open to exploitation because it’s an...

    Fish traps ect...

As long as you’re there to collect your catch and re-bait the hooks there shouldn’t be an opportunity for dogs to get entangled. There are hooks that have their points turned inwards these days which makes them much more difficult to foul them or hook yourself.

What are the worst-case-scenario hiking situations?

As much as I applaud the idea of carrying a first aid kit it needs to be proportionate to risk or you’d be weighed down with all sorts of dressings, oxygen tanks, defibrillator etc…. its just a dog walk that he does twice a day.

    Fish traps ect...

I used to set lines during winter on the north west coast. I would visit them every low tide, I would catch lugworm with a bait pump on the way out before re-baiting 24 hooks and heading back with my catch. Once finished with I would dig it all up and clear the whole lot away leaving no trace...
