    Living off somebody else's land

To be honest though it is not an everyday situation, the Council benefit from my occupation of the land, it is very difficult for them to access, hence it being practically abandoned by them, I have put up fences and signs told various people in no uncertain terms to leave the land alone. By and...

    Living off somebody else's land

It rather depends on what you regard as rights to land. Morally I suppose it is a question of whether you are taking something from someone else who needs it. I read the story of Harry the Hermit on Hamstead heath and decided I must needs take my own piece of land off the Council, I am still...

    Car sleeping?

It is not difficult if you have the length in the back with the seats folded down. Plenty of room in my Qashqai. I have a purpose built plywood bed base to fill the gaps and on top of that an inflatetable sleeping mat.

    What did you buy today?

I recieved delivery of a Tod Cutler low status peasants eating knife via Royal Mail. My postie does not have any problem believing my age :) Anyway I think it is rather too good for a low status peasant and I think will serve very well as a small all round knife for kitchen prep as well as a bit...

    Legality and Perception of EDC's

Not been stopped since I was a young man some forty odd years ago when I would walk home from the pub with a legal knife in my pocket, even then that was considered acceptable and I was left to go my way in peace.

    Legality and Perception of EDC's

I have started to treat the Black Belt barrister with the same circumspection I treat any other youtube "expert". I suspect he has an alternate agenda. I have not changed anything that I do on account of his dire ramblings.

Heads up - Post office not sending sharps after 22nd April

Actually it still prohibits a number of items that are legal to own, make and trade including antiques and blunt fencing blades.

Need to be taught better- woodland vandalism

Seems to be getting worse, they clearly don't teach them young enough. Round here trees get broken in half almost as soon as they are planted. I hate to suggest regulation as an answer but if you needed some sort of "bushcraft" license to enter various woodlands, like you do a fishing licence it...

Swiss Army Knife repairs. USEFUL INFORMATION

When I looked for repairs on the victorinox site, the store finder sent me to 163 Parker Street Leicester, which would appear not to be the same address as the one given earlier in this thread so which one is it?

Swiss Army Knife repairs. USEFUL INFORMATION

There seems to be conflicting information on the web. I bent the corkscrew on my huntsman and looked online then checked google maps, which showed something other than the company at the location given on the Victorinox site. That regardless, with all that kerfuffle over posting blades is it ok...

    What is wild swimming?

Wild swimming by definition is any swimming in places other than a pool, lido or designated bathing area. Some swimming is wilder than others, particularly if you have to climb half way up a mountain to do it.

    What is wild swimming?

I will have to go wild paddling in my local river as it isn't deep enough to swim in, notwithstanding the Council have decided in their wisdom to post no swimming notices when there is clearly not enough water to even get your ankles wet in high summer. Dirty rivers are not a new thing however I...

Heads up - Post office not sending sharps after 22nd April

It is all about perceptions again, Hunting = brutish and bad, Survival = fighting zombies and is double plus ungood, Machetes = Mexican drug cartels, Billhooks = morris dancing and quaint country pursuits. If somebody makes a movie called "Swiss army ninja assasin" we will be well and truly stuffed.

    Spring has Sprung - 2024

Local Council have just started charging for taking garden refuse. Can't say I blame them, they can barely afford to keep the street lights on the way things are going. I do wonder why some of the folk who complain have not discovered composting yet.

    Plastic free camping

This is true, it uses a lot of water in the production. The problem really is not the production but the population, we use too much water. I do think that products that you grow are better than products that come from oil and coal though, they may not be perfect but they have a better...
