Ventile should not be treated the fibres swell like they do in old fashioned tent canvas and don't let water through but it is still wet to the touch, hence a layer underneath. As for Keela, the cuffs fray, and you get holes too because of abrasion. What is a good point is that traditional...
An update on this thread, Bushcraft Spain have come up with a groundsheet and I am going to try it out, however with my set up that only covers the ends, but I did get the one Tigris bathtub groundsheet and that has kept my stuff out of the puddles.
True, it frays, so what you need is leather or suede around the cuffs. Synthetic fibres may be more durable but not anywhere near a fire and don't we bushcrafters like to light fires?
Waterproof and breathable are mutual contradictions no matter what the advertising hype says. Vinyl is 100% waterproof. FWIW I have a waxed canvas drizabone style coat that I have had for a very long time and never had to reproof, it just goes on doing it's thing.
No problem with Petzls for me, might not be as bright as the Johnny come lately's but I have a Tikka and a couple of E-lites that are still doing what they were designed to. In fact I found one of my E-lites in a muddy puddle and it works fine.
Never had a high end folding saw, I have used whatever is on sale at the local garden centre and considering I have lost a few of them it is just as well I did not pay silly money. I really do not know if a Silky or a Bahco is any better since I have never tried.
When it comes to my brother, I do not think it is possible to have a civil disagreement, it will either come to blows or a mutual shunning for a month or so, he is a tetchy one for sure.
It used to be the case that the handle went way before the blade, I never had a blade snap on me until fairly recently and I have to conclude that it is the usual suspects, quality steel having gone back at least 500 years in the last decade or two.
I use boiled linseed oil, years ago I used to use polyurethane varnish, but I really do not like that kind of a finish anymore besides being too synthetic.
I was thinking only yesterday, being at an event where people have the opportunity to run various workshops, including craft workshops, just how difficult it would be to run one on how to make walking sticks like the ones I bought to the event. Firstly I would need a supply of suitable wood...
So far so good, you need to keep the end of the tube clean of course, but enough duct tape and it won't leak and you also have emergency duct tape. How much do I need?, well maybe you have never heard of eczema. It is more convenient to carry a small amount in a small tube rather than the pot it...
I have had people tell me I should not drink cider out of Pewter tankards. Well even if it were old style pewter, the cider is not going to be in the tankard long enough to dissolve enough lead to do any real harm.
As for tools that look like they marginally fit the new descriptors, it will not be for the police to determine if it goes to court, it will be for a judge and I am sure a proper defence can be put forward. Such a case would have to have regard to what parliament intended and I am fairly sure...
