    Small axe

There are other reasons why I prefer smaller, lighter tools and that is age and infirmity. I tend to suffer from tennis elbow, or should I call it bushwackers elbow when I chop too much, the Lochnessmuk economises the bulk of the blade where you need it rather like a Kukri so I guess is a bit...

    Small axe

I think knowlege of how to fell a tree is more important than the tool you use, just think of what beavers can do with their teeth alone. When it comes to making a cut it is essentially about mechanics, the angle of the cut and the momentum you can impart with the tool providing it is sharp. I...

Wear resistance of fabrics in waterproofs, esp. Paramo

Very good question, on the whole artificial fabrics like nylon, pertex, and what have you are very durable compared to their natural equivalents but I will say this, their waterproofing qualities are not. I do have a couple of Buffalo items that have made the grade over a score of years or so...

Alone (UK) TV series. What ten items would you choose?

I will content myself with a single item, and that is a well appointed portacabin with a well stocked minibar, like the one Bear Grylls uses. I may not actually come out of it between takes, who cares it is just entertainment :)

    Spearhead.

Ooh dear, guess I should surrender my yatagan bayonet in the next amnesty then, except of course that it is an antique and collectable m'lud, not something I would use for cutting the grass.

Is a psk really needed in the UK?

Essentially what you want is those items that your mum would have in the bottom of her handbag.

Real knives in the old west.

I have just come across this on YouTube which shows knives which were actually used on the frontier, somewhat different to our fancy hi tech steel blades no? More like my mums cooks knives which got smaller and smaller as time went by. Enjoy:

    Gas Cannisters Vs Liquid Fuel

I have stopped using gas, I don't think it is particularly good for the environment, there is manufacture of the cans to be considered in that equation as well. I use either alcohol or wood because it works well enough.

What are your favourite pocket knives?

At them moment it is the SAK farmer X though sometimes I will carry the original farmer because it is thinner, dunno what has happened to my Spyderco clipitool, it seems to have vanished, I'll have to go turning out all my pocketses to discover where it might have got to. BTW you can open any...

    HEXAMINE. PLEASE READ!

NaCl is the chemical formula for common table salt, and Vitriol is H2SO4, I remember from my O level Chemistry, though not much else. They will be banning salt next though as it contains both an explosive and a deadly gas not to mention causing high blood pressure .

    HEXAMINE. PLEASE READ!

You mean like Jimi Hendrix posters on the walls.

    HEXAMINE. PLEASE READ!

I think this is one that will be honoured in the breech more often than not, it is another cock up like the dangerous dogs act, some of those things are common household substances like hydrogen peroxide. As for poisons, Oxalic acid indeed, we are bushcrafters are we not and know you can find...

Does it also fit the smallest Ghillie kettle or are there slight differences in dimensions between ghillie and Kelly kettles?

    Warm gloves

When the weather gets cold enough I resort to a trusty pair of 'gloves combat MkII' and when it is colder than that a pair of ski gloves I got from Aldi's some time back.

Someone has been done for carry Zombie knives.

Lets be fair to the rozzers here, (and I am not talking about the met who are a special case) they have a difficult job to do and they are never there when you want them but always on your case when you don't. The law needs to be flexible and I think notwithstanding the ridiculous burden that...

Someone has been done for carry Zombie knives.

The statistical chances of being stopped and searched out in the sticks are infinitessimal.

Swopping over to natural wool bedding.

Now that gives me an idea to use my old worn out pullovers as stuffing for pillows.

The Police have recovered the bodies of the four lads who went missing on Sunday.

I was hoping it would not end like this, car accident as well. It is very easy to come off those roads if it is a bit slippery, I can tell you from experience.

Someone has been done for carry Zombie knives.

I do think it was a fair cop guv'nor as they had no good reason to be carrying those knives and never mind that all knives in the wrong hands can inflict a lot of damage, they are the sort of blades idiots might carry to look intimidating and big themselves up that they are some kind of urban...

Petition seeks to have serial numbers on all knives sold

Might just as well demand that all males over the age of 16 should have their dongs registered, you know that will make the streets safer for women.
