    Criossbows

Crossbows have been used in crime related shootings in the past here in Scandinavia. Perhaps that was the reason for the banning in the first place ? One or two years ago a biker was shot dead with a broadheadtipped crossbow bolt in Denmark (the ban was in place a long time before this...

    Snow anyone?

Bambodoggy, the guy is quite busy these days, but he confirmed that you do not yet need to take a course to hunt with the bow (might be different next season ?). What you currently need is: In addition to the above you will also need the local landowners permission to hunt on his land. Your...

    Criossbows

In the Scandinavian countries crossbows are banned, and you need a license in order to own or use one, which is quite ok IMO, as I don't think that just about anybody should be able to run around with these weapons. But then again, it is virtually impossible to get such a license (at least in...

    Expedition summer 2006

A couple of weeks ago I saw a video taped from Danish Television (long time ago) with a story of some 6 or 8 danes who build a biiig canoe with space for everyone. It was build in two parts and assembled on site, when they paddled the length of Torneälven. Getting fishing permits will be easy...

    Anyone been to the Serengeti?

Sorry Martyn, don't know anything about the Serengeti or the Mara, as it is a bit too far north for my usual haunts. Beermonster seems to know the areas quite well though :biggthump Good advise too. I'm almost envious, but if everything go as planned, I should be somewhere in the bush in the...

    Flint Skills

Beer bottles, coke bottles, TV tubes etc all work very nicely. Something in between flint and obsidian. I've had students start of on glass to get the basics before knocking on more valuable stone (no natural flint in Norway, we only got quartz which is not as easily worked as flint or the even...

    Snow anyone?

Last time I checked you only needed a Finnish hunting license, but I know that they have spoken about a compulsory bowhunters course / examination that will have to be completed before being able to get a bowhunting license. I am just not sure if there has been made some legislation on that yet...

    Snow anyone?

Yep, small game up to the size of and including roedeer. They have spoken about legalizing bowhunting on whitetail deer too, but I am not sure if they already did it this season or it will be next season.

    Ticks

If you have got the ring you must go to see your doctor (or give it to Frodo :o): ) ! The Lymes disease / borrelia should be taken very seriously !! I have had the :***: twice (diagnosed as East African Tick Bite Fever), the first time I spent some 8 days in hospital. The second time I was...

    Snow anyone?

You won't need any permits or permissions from anyone for going anywhere or camp anywhere with your basha ! But you can't shoot anything with your bow, as bowhunting is strictly forbidden by law. Nothing prevents you from doing a bit of roving or stump shooting though.

Less of a Saga than a Post

Iceland should have pretty much the same rules with regard to travelling as the ones you will find in Norway, Sweden and Finland. One thing that I do know, is that if you think that Norwegian prices are steep, then just wait to you get to Iceland  Never been there, but this place looks...

    Deepfreezer for car???

In South Africa we use something like that. It run on its own battery, or you can plug it into the cig thing in the car. I think that I have seen an advertisment for something similar in one of the Norwegian outdoor / hunting magazines.

Masai Hand drill - which wood

There's no exact recipy. Everything is mixed more or less by eye measurement, although I find thet the more charcoal you add, the more brittle the stuff becomes. Plant fibres added "untill it is enough".
