Was looking on eBay last night and come across some vintage saddler and upholstery tools they do come with more of a price tag.
Then again as you say its a reflection in there quality too, I've got a fairly small collection of vintage carpenters tools i have acquired over the years compered to the monkey metal thats used today amongst all the other materials used, they are pretty much indestructible, are your leather working tools vintage or a particular brand thats more recent?

The Identity Store were always a really good source for both leather and tools including a great deral of stuff from Tandy (US based) I was lucky enough to live quite close to the Tandy Store when it existed so used to buy direct from them. They still sell in the UK but by mail order only, I think from N.Europe.
I used to get a lot of my leather from a local currier factory (NOT courier ... currier ) that has long since closed down. If you can find a currier close enough to you they would be well worth a personal visit. What they regard as scrap is enough to break your heart so you can get some really good pieces for a pittance compared to any normal retailer.
If you can get to meet and know a local saddler they can provide a mass of info and advice too.

I get my leather from a leather seating manufacturer, they have loads of rejects, offcuts etc. Look for the companies that upholster fro the car industry near you they always have spare bits and bobs , got a full hide once had barbed wire defect all over it. Useless for a car seat apparently.

Would its wrong if me to say that the first thing that come to my brain wasn't 'courier' its was "Curryier"
Yah its a shame in all honesty we live in such a throw away society, when used to work with refuse the amount of stuff that get chucked away is enough to make you cry it really is....food waist is what grindes my gears i had a bloke come out once with a full sized recycling bin filled from top to bottom with frozen meat, and I'm not talking your run of the mill value rubbish, this was joints of beef, lamb, bacon, Gammon, salmon, steak the lot all butchers stuff you know .. I said to him why are you throwing it away aint nothing wrong with it .. I thought maby his freezer was on the way out or something, nope he just fancied a change he said and hes throwing this lot, I said why dont you give it your neighbours or something or people who might need it.. didn't get an answer to that. Feel sorry for the poor animals died for no reason pretty much.

Thats a good shout that thanks .. had a little look about and found one in a town not to far from me, I did try calling but no answer so I dropped them a email, hopefully they will get back in contact.
