Healthy Eating - the 'Bushcraft Eating Plan'?

But is it? I suppose that's the question we need to face now. I know this belief is widespread but evidence seems to suggest we evolved consuming a fairly narrow diet (by modern standards) - and our bodily functions evolved to make the most use of (and needing) the foods available at that time...

Healthy Eating - the 'Bushcraft Eating Plan'?

I've always been interested in following a healthy diet and eating well, and as usual have a few pounds I'm in the process of losing at the moment. There seems to be a constant stream of (often conflicting) information about what we should and shouldn't be eating - how much fat, protein or...

    Cattail hand drill

Well done, thanks for the thread- I'm going to give this a go. Technique seems different to my usual elder drill.

    Cooker from a pine log

You can also light it by just lighting a normal fire on top of the split logs - tinder, kindling etc. Keep it going for about five minutes with little finger size dry sticks and the log will soon catch.

Frame of mind/Psychology of solo trips.

I don't think there's something missing from them - they're are just different to you. They could equally argue that there's something missing from you because you find these situations a big turn off. Just because they find quiet solitude a big turn off doesn't mean there's something missing...

    Nomination for best Queen album

Agreed. I first got this on vinyl - side one is pretty good but side two is a rollercoaster...leading up to March of the Black Queen before gently bringing you back down to the ground.

Charred Newspaper (used like Charcloth): How to make

I've been playing with this stuff today. First I tried broken off pieces of recycled newspaper that had been made into logs using the press Ogri the Trog showed in an earlier post. The paper mache I'd used was very course - just torn up newspaper rather than a pulp. After the charing it was...

    Should I worry about this?

I think the cord should be strong enough - and you can check it every day you use it. If I was the tree I might be worried though - a larksfoot of paracord won't spread your weight very efficiently and may cause damage.

    Cleaning up.

Hi Asa, Sand/gravel makes a great scourer, mixed with water into a slurry. Saliva contains enzymes designed to break down food - there's a lot to be said for licking your plate clean then a quick wipe with a piece of damp toilet roll (obviously not recycled!) Also, after you've eaten, put...

    Hand drill quick query

I generally put the thick end on the hearth board for the reasons outlined above. For me, it's easier to maintain friction (grip) with my hands when the thick end is down. How are you getting on with it?

    Wasp Stings

Apparantly wasp stings are alkali, so you can neutralise with a mild acid - vinegar for example. Bees are the opposite so you need to neatralise with an alkali like sodium bi-carbonate (baking powder)

    Is my guilt justified?

My view is that guilt is an emotion you feel when you think you've broken someone elses rules. Shame is an emotion you feel when you've broken your own rules. I'm guessing you don't feel shame as you're quite open about what happened. I'm also guessing you don't approve of their rules...

Bushcraft Boat? Ref: Rivers TV Show

I'm not in the legal profession either, but my understanding is that if you wander onto someones property you may be committing trespass. In this case it is a civil offense and the landowner may sue for damages or seek an injunction against you. The Police shouldn't be involved as it's a...
