Looking for Luxe Outdoor tents comparisons, and opinions (Mini/Hex/Trail Peak)

That is odd... I just got an email back from distributor informing me that the duo inner tent listed on backpackinglight's site here does not fit the Sil-MiniPeak, only the MiniPeak II. However backpacking light says it fits both and I'm pretty sure the Sil and the II versions are virtually...

Looking for Luxe Outdoor tents comparisons, and opinions (Mini/Hex/Trail Peak)

I've been told by the Canadian distributor that Sil-MiniPeak is still available to order. :) I think I'm pretty sold on the MiniPeak. Hex has way too many tie points for our terrain in eastern Newfoundland. Looking at Mini or Trail Peaks now, and I think it is going to be the mini, with the...

Looking for Luxe Outdoor tents comparisons, and opinions (Mini/Hex/Trail Peak)

Thanks guys this is a great start, keep em coming! I should mention that where I live the fewer pegs the better as the ground is quite tough in places. Glaciers removed most of the soil from Newfoundland way back :) For this reason I was thinking more the MP than the HP as from what I read...

Looking for Luxe Outdoor tents comparisons, and opinions (Mini/Hex/Trail Peak)

Hey folks, I am interested in possibly getting a new 1 or 2 man tent for my camping adventures, and I am now pretty much exlcusively looking at UL gear as I'm sick of carrying so much weight! (I could lose 10bs too...) So, I've been doing a bit of searching, and like the single pole tents...

What goes through certain people's minds?

I try to leave no trace if possible, but the woods here in Newfoundland are very dense. If you find a spot with a bit of an opening for a tent or hammock, it has probably been a site for someone at some point. I come across rock fire pits, log benches, etc a bit, and I have to say to do not mind...

    Tell me about Trangia Stoves!

They are good, and I love mine, however lately I prefer isobutane type stoves similar to this. I have the trangia gas burner that fits in my honey stove as my secondary cook source. For doing up a brew, trangia is great. For cooking anything in wind or very cold temps, they are no where near...

    Dont batton with your knife

I'd like to have a nice pretty full tang knife, but the fact of the matter is I'm probably not that great at sharpening and a $200-$300 knife would be wasted on me save for drooling over it. So, what I have is a Mora Bushcraft Black HD, a $40 knife that seems to be mostly indestructible, along...

Anyone had any Birch sap yet?

What kind of conditions are best for collecting birch sap? Quite a bit of birch around these parts (not much maple) so I'd be interested in trying it out. However it's still pretty much winter here. Thanks, H

Challenge - An Overnight Every Month 2014: Feb Fail, but out in March!

Awesome! Glad I could pass on a little inspiration! Compared to other parts of Canada, Newfoundland is relatively mild weather temperature wise be we get lots of precipitation and messy weather. My -12C bag will be good for any winter camping I'll be doing. If you ever want to visit you have a...

Challenge - An Overnight Every Month 2014: Feb Fail, but out in March!

So back in January I made a post about a challenge I had set for myself this year to stay out overnight once per month to try and get more experienced with my camping/bush skills in all seasons. Prior to this I've never winter camped. You can read about my first night out here. Unfortunately...

    Toaks Titanium Pots?

Used mine over an open fire on Saturday. I can confirm the coating on the handles does not hold up well. I'll be removing the rest of it. Other than that, and as has been discussed the pot lid not fitting on really well, it held up marvelously.

    Totally new fire product!!!

Yeah sorry, but this seems like a bad idea from all sides if you ask me. It's a concern already about keeping synthetic materials near a fire, such a rucksack, let alone tying fire starting aids all over it and the rest of my gear. That tied with the degradation of the strength due to gutting...

    old bombproof tent

That's beautiful! I'd love to have something like that to use as a winter wall tent, put a stove jack in there and a small wood stove. Drool....
