    Rosellie Carpenter review

I agree entirely with your review. The carpenter is my favourite puukko, the handle is magnificently ergonomic and the scandi grind goes through wood like butter. After getting used to using my F1 the carpenter seems like a feather (a very sharp feather) and the narrow blade is extremely deft...

What's the latest bit of kit you've bought and why?

I just bought an Ibex Shak (as in shackleton) after receiving the Ibex Scout half zip, a boucle knit athletic cut sweater, and the Ibex Pico a midweight zip baselayer/shirt. I've still got a little wait ahead for the Shak but it's coming! I'll get a chance to test out the Scout and Pico tommorow...

    Dreaming of a little cabin

I've heard nice things about PEI. I own an 8 acre island right near Red Lake Ontario. It's a beautiful spot and is a hop, skip, and a jump from Woodland Caribou Provincial park. Unfortunatley if we were to build a permanent residence on the island we would be SLAMMED with taxes. Maybe a yurt...

What's the latest bit of kit you've bought and why?

Just bought an Ibex Scout half zip (rust) and an Ibex Pico Half zip (graphite, maple) . Got 'em because they were both about 40% off, had excellent reviews ,and...wool rules. PS. I also thought that olive green was getting a tad boring :)

    made me a nessmuk

Very cool! I take it from the paper shavings in the background that it is quite sharp :D . The forward hump and upwards curved blade reminds me of the Adirondack Guide from Bark River.

    Canvas packs--how sensible are they?

I personally like to use the lighter weight Nylon packs. Nylon has four times the abrasion resistance (pound for pound) of canvas. With this huge advantage in toughness, you can have a larger pack and/or a more complicated suspension system without having a heavy pack. I find the 1000D Cordura...

What's the latest bit of kit you've bought and why?

North Face Syncline shirt (discontinued- 40% off) and North Face Flight Tee (50% off). The Syncline shirt is surprisingly heavy for a North Face shirt with a densely woven fabric called "Odyssey cloth" (65% Modal, 35% polyester) and doubled yoke. The Flight tee is very lightweight, silky soft...

Red Squirrel Encounter - How Rare?

There's tons of them where I live (basically a residential forest). Although they are outnumbered by the greys, they are far more aggressive and skitter after them if they are in a pissey mood. I also have one nesting in my woodpile, we call him little red not only because of his colour but...

    Canadian kit

The more expensive Danner boots such as the Acadias are made in the States and are pretty much bombproof, but they require a alot of wear to break 'em in. Both the standard and desert Acadias are very popular in the Canadian military which has to say something about their quality. They are quite...

    Canadian kit

If you don't have one already, I suggest getting a Tilley hat. My Hemp Tilley is equally well suited to hot and dry, and cool and wet. The Hemp stiffens up greatly when wet so you don't get a limp floppy hat. Tilley also sells amazing hot weather clothing (little pricey though). BTW the factory...

    how do you carry yours?

I used to carry all my knives on my belt (strong side) but I now find it better to carry my smaller fixed blades in my pocket (strong side).

    Dutch Ovens

Don't big box stores in the UK carry them? I picked one up at my local superstore (granted it's canadian) for about 10$ CAN. I personally think that 25 pounds is WAY too much for a chunk of cast iron.

    Tirpitz knife

Huh...my great uncle Walter was one of the Lancaster bombadiers (bomb aimers) who made the run on the Tirpitz. I remember doing a piece on him in grade 6.

    New mora knifes

Nice knife! It looks like a Mora from outer space :D . Maybe Mora is looking for new designs/colours to go with its trendy new logo.

    Grohmann

Grohmann knives are spectacular I currently own the #4 model in Rosewood (Ibought it as a kit) and am soon sending it to the factory to be flat ground. I'm also looking at getting a boat or army style (#3 I think) in the army overlap sheath (the boat knife is apparently used extensivley used...
