Nothing much to add thats not already been said in this thread:-) but I am constantly impressed by spirit of this site :You_Rock_ -if thats not too hippy;-) Everyone seems willing to share their knoledge or point people in the right direction. Gotta be a good thing.

Congratulations. My son and i made our first ember last week -and a few since then. Not heard of your bowless method being used before -might give it a go over the weekend.
Hiya, I've got a lad myself and this site seems very family friendly and loads of "how to .." type stuff for those rainy weekends -last week we made fire from a bow drill in the kitchen
From what your saying I think you'd do well (and enjoy yourselves more) if you tried something like walking a section of coast path. Easy to research and find campsites of all types. Maybe a bit of wild camping/foraging on the beaches. Got to do your homework though as some beaches completely...

i bought one recently -retail from www. firesteels... with a nice turned handle. Works lovely :) Loads of big fat sparks using back of my knife or even the saw blade striker think i paid about £10 for it with postage so you can see what a bargain this group buy is :D
Nice 1 Too Much Kit...
