    Jazzy

Looks pretty cool. Is it a lumberjack?

    Mild winter?

@slowworm we're in Wexford now. Started out in Dublin, but been happier here the last year and a half. This morning I woke up to everything frozen... black ice on the pavement and a white garden. So nevermind the original post. I guess it's just been a bit later than the last few years. Haha

    Mild winter?

This is my 4th winter in Ireland, so not 100 percent sure if this winter is normal. The first 3 we had a lot of cold, some snow and a lot frost over December into January. This year has been very mild by comparison. Comparatively there have been maybe 3 mornings where we had frost so far and...

    Favourite "Bushcraft" activities for relaxing

I don't actually bushcraft much. I spend most of my outdoor time walking or fishing. In both cases I like practicing carving primitive traps on down time. Most places where I am don't allow fires either. So I just practice that at home (read making a fire for the stove as difficult as possible)...

What’s on your keyring (and do you use it?)

I have a key (one), a Victorinox Rally and an oLite i3E EOS. That's it and I use everything there. We share a car, so the car fob is with whoever has the car.

What to use as tinder in different parts of Europe

Following this with interest. Very difficult to find anything dry here, especially in winter. Unless planned ahead I think often the only option would be to split a piece of dry wood and make a fine feather stick. Or birch bark if there is any. I'll look out from cramp balls to give that try...

    Marttiini pukko?

I have two and like them a lot. A stainless lynx 131 and a lynx black edition which is the same steel (80crV2) as the one you show there. I think the 80crv2 models are laurin metalli blades, but stand to be corrected. I like my stainless one more than black edition because of minor...

Protecting saws and other tools from rust

I have the same issue. Everything has a Liberal coating of 3 in 1 when hung up. Other stuff goes in a waterproof plastic container with lots of silica gel packets. Annoying problem... I can't keep rust off my hand planes, even with a lot of oil... saws are fine for some reason. Wonder if damp...

    Trapping, numbers game

I've been watching the UK version of alone, and they're obviously struggling with food. Now I see some of them have a gill net on a log set up and some of them have a random trap set. They also spend a bit of time fishing a hand line. Maybe they have more going on but it doesn't look like it...

Felix Immler and Victorinox Venture Bushcraft fixed blade collection

I like that joker. To be fair it comes in a flat and a scandi. I think it's a flat in the pics isn't it? The more I look at the Victorinox, the more I like it... but the cheapskate in me also wonders if the odenwolf/ wolfgangs w1 is a better deal for 35 euro. The Vic is probably better...

    Alternatives to DMT Diafold sharpener

I have a marttiini diamond sharpener. Simple thing with a coarse side, fine side with a hook sharpener. I like the handle on it and actually pretty happy with it in general. It started out a bit rough, but has smoothed nicely. I think it's only 300 | 600, but I only have simple steels, so can...

    UK version of Alone.

Just finished ep.3. Not as bad as I thought after ep.1. The contestants are doing better than I thought. I think it's partly the editing that made it seem worse.

    UK version of Alone.

Just watched episode 1. I know it's easy to criticise from the sofa, but I'm concerned for some of the people they've shown us so far. It could just be the way it's edited. Hopefully they settle into it and show their skills a bit. To be fair, at least they're out there doing it. I'm on my...

    My retro knife

Interesting read. You know, I've been close to getting a version of those pilot knives a few times, but always change my mind as practicality wins out. Had to google the clasp knife. Looks interesting... some pics would be good.
