Want to demo/sell courses at the NEC National Outdoor Expo at the end of March?

Any instructors interseted in a free place advertising/demonstrating at the NEC§s National Outdoor Expo late March? Two places have opened up that will give you a corner of the Bushcraft Zone to set up a display, and two slots per day to run activities/demonstrations. This is a great...

"More-than" simply refers to going beyond humans, without using culturally loaded/defined terms such as "nature".

Understood, however, the facts are the facts. This is not a disagreement between two parties; this is reporting to the wider community, discussing business practice and being aware.

    missing post??

Hi, I posted yesterday and received a message saying it had been moved to another thread. When I click on it however it says I do not have permission to see that thread???? It would seem odd to make a thread something that the OP is not able to see/respond/contribute to.

No. Experiential archaeology is trying to recreate/rediscover the physical artefacts and skills. My field, ethnoecology, explores the ontological substrate that produces and emerges through how people perceive and live with the more-than-human.

If that perspective works for you, then great :) Those involved in the academic side of bushcraft are very experienced in the field of it. Rather than academics approaching bushcraft, rather, this is people with a experience in bushcraft using academia to explore it in new, challenging ways :)

It can be uncomfortable reading something that you do not want to agree with. I like to be curious and find perspectives that challenge my own. Fortunately, different perspectives can exist. For some, it is mystical and sacred and feels universal. For others, there is value in asking questions...

Great, but we don't have to agree. Bushcraft might be descriptive rather than definable, but a nebulous noun is still a noun, otherwise, everything is potentially not-not-bushcraft :) There are substantive differences between using firelights on a weekend away and a culture with...

I left school with nothing and found my "thing" in bushcraft. I am not interested in telling anyone what is right, or wrong, heck, I would be surprised if anyone ever reads it other than me and my tutors. I am just fascinated by what the process creates like you say. Someone asked me if I...

That is ok, how boring would it be if we all agreed on everything :) What is the definition of cosmology that you are using? Theology deals with interpretations/sacred texts about the creation, existence and nature of reality. Bushcraft is not being reified, it is being put into an appropriate...

No, I mentioned cosmological, along with ontological and epistemological. Not cosmology, ie the study of galaxies. How do you see assemblages as a means to explore kinship with "place" given the temporal nature of, well nature? Saiid was part of the first week's reading, yes. If you have any...

Academically, unless referring specifically to the structures of galaxies, cosmologies are how individuals, communities and cultures conceive of the creation, existence and meaning of reality. Science influences some forms of cosmology, theology, and others, for example. Bushcraft has not been...
