UK import duty on camping goods (tent) from Canada

Some people on the forum have claimed it back so you could try the form with HMRC. I’m looking forward to mine, did you get the standard pole length? I went short pole for bikepacking and ease of packing into my dry bags.

    Pine martens

Fantastic. I’m looking forward to the population increasing enough in the New Forest that sighting like that become commonplace.

You can try and fill out a form with HMRC to claim it back but strictly speaking the tent originated from Canada but was not manufactured or even assembled in Canada.

    Track and sign evaluation

Thanks. It’s a never ending subject and takes you off into many directions, tangents and quite literal rabbit holes. The evaluations highlight strengths and areas to improve on where you have adequate knowledge but not the depth required to score a bit higher or if something obscure come...

I’ve not done it for years. Lots locally have been abandoned which is a shame.

    Track and sign evaluation

Just back from a fantastic weekend in Midhurst area doing another Track and Sign Evaluation with John at https://www.woodcraftschool.co.uk/ 56 track and sign to identify scored from 1-3 points depending on complexity, and my first ever set of Mink tracks. As always the evaluation questions are...

Have 1kg of sosmix and will try something out at the weekend. Potato cakes look like something I can make in my van. Sosmix recipes: https://sosmix.com/sosmix-recipes/

    Just add water.....

I don’t have any skin is this game (everyone west of Dorset is a bit weird anyway) but cream as a base makes sense - if the cream is firmer than the jam. Otherwise basic engineering applies and the firmer jam goes on first, especially if someone is using cheap skate non clotted cream.

    Van conversion advice

I’ve used it a few times now. Works well and comes out the car easily. Just put it pack in last night ready for some trips next couple of months.

The Durston X Dome 1+ Pass around and review thread.

Very positive review. I’ve ordered a solid inner one for June dispatch. I like ‘Durston’ whom has been very proactive on several forums and dealt some pole issues very well. Excited to try mine out in the late summer.

    Trailing evaluation

I just completed a Cyber Tracker trailing evaluation. Very different from the track and sign evaluation because you don’t get any feedback back until the debrief at the very end, when they give you your score, and the certificate. Each candidate finds a trail and continues it until it ends, runs...
