BushMoot: Come along to the amazing Summer Moot 31st July - 5th August (extended Moot : 27th July - 8th August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Well, it took a while but today I've finally managed to buy the small wood that I've been using with permission to camp and craft in. It's a bit unruly and needs some clearing and managing here and there but it's an acre and a half of paradise as far as I'm concerned.
Amazingly for me, I've got the perfect small peice of leather for one. I've just ordered some Autosol. Between this leather dowel and the sandpaper ones I'll be making, it looks like I'm in for a nice few hours of tinkering.
Similar to a lot of people I like to do a spot of whittling by the fire. For me it's probably the most relaxing thing I can do whilst in camp. I've got a little standard three knive whittling set and I can sharpen the two flat blades fine but I struggle when it comes to the hook blade and as...
I use a Waterdrop system. What I like about it is the flexibility. For main camp I fill the 2.5 galon water bag from a nearby lake. That's then hung in a tree and the filter attached. The filter can be connected to the small collapsible water bottle that comes with it. It is also threaded to fit...
Fair enough. We all approach situations differently I suppose. Personally, I value the kind of service I received from Castrom and I appreciate the effort they've gone to with me. Customer engagement seems to be very important to them and I would have no hesitation in ordering from them again...
The squab was still struggling alot until they got to the base of the tree. It looks like here the stoat took the opportunity of firm ground to reposition its bite on the neck and the squab was dead about 10 seconds later. It was the flapping of the first squab that got my attention. The stoat...
Im nearly sorted. Like I said, I was speaking to Castrom (not complaining). Their main uk contact is Leo, a top bloke based in Sweden. After a chat about the problem, Leo said that the difference in grind was within acceptable limits for the knive based on it's price point and manufacturing and...
Just back from four nights out (trip report of sorts to follow). I'm very fortunate to be able to use a private wildlife rich spot and being a solo soul I can make sure my time there has as little impact as possible on the life around me. Even so, I wasn't expecting to see this stoat at work...
I must admit, it's my favourite spot. It's in private land that I've got permission to use and I've never seen another person since I've been using it. I've built it up over time usually just adding a bit on each trip although I've think I've built it up enough now so I'll just swap bits and...
Just arrived at camp for the rest of the week with only the wildlife for company. I use this spot a lot hence the base camp style of everything although it's worth noting that all the materials for stools and tables etc are carried in from the drift wood piles on the nearby estuary. The lump of...
The what3words for my main camp include Swan Soup. There are swans on some ponds very close by and I'll cook and eat most things but I think I'll pass this time :).
