    Snakes??

    :) Retic's are massive..... I've not seen a lot of snakes this past summer in Australia.... a couple of dugites in Western Australia, a handful of red-bellied black snakes and a death adder while camping on the South Coast of New South Wales and thats about it....usually see a lot more

    What knife and why?

    EDC is a Leatherman Charge XTi which is all I need to carry on my person and usually gets used at least half a dozen times a day.....the 154CM blade suits my purposes fine for an EDC and is scarily sharp out of thebox. As for knives.....I use a Mad Dog ATAK and a SOG SEAL pup at the moment but...

    It just depends on the area in which you are camping....I was in a National Park on the far South coast of New South Wales over Christmas and it was a total fireban....it rained for three days and the fireban was lifted. At this time of year it is just a case of monitoring the fire service sites...

    Unfortunately, public camping areas are as you described for a good reason.....and the reason is losing millions of hectares of forest to bushfires every year....this year included....there is a huge one in Victoria at the moment and scores of homes and properties have been destroyed this year...
