Beginner rifle recommendations

The haenel Jager 10 is my general purpose hunting rifle. I have it in .30-06 spr with a Zeiss Victory HT on it, and i love it to bits. Their around €1000 in the netherlands.

    Beginner rifle recommendations

I ran into a baikal about a year ago. unused for really small change. (<€350) I love it to bits, 3k rounds through it and not a single hickup what so ever!

    starting out with hunting

In general the shooting distances in Germany aren't that long. 200m is considered a long distance shot. Average in Germany is sub 100m with the most in between 50-75m. A lot of it has to do with hunting a feedstations on Wildboar and the copious amounts of sloe-brush where WB's like to flee into...

    starting out with hunting

A CZ550 in .30-06 will technically last you a lifetime. But all hunters like goodies so in the end you want something else just for the sake of it :P When it comes to ammo, .30-06 is the most widely used caliber in germany allong with the 8*57IS and 9,3*62mm. .308 is nice too, slightly more...

When you're on the menu. What would you do?

In pretty much all places i'd use copious amounts of DEET, a mozzie-net and tick repelling clothing. Mozzies and ticks are most likely to have you on the menu. And with Lymes etc. also most likely to do you harm.

    Shooting an underlever.

Ok, i've looked and can't find it. There are just 20k active users or so on the "Wild und Hund" forums so there are a lot of posts to work through. Google helps a bit when using "bleivergifteten" Seeadler"" as a query. Driven hunt was ok btw, just 8 boars and 3 roedeer. We hoped for more, but...

    Shooting an underlever.

I'll get back to that. Will take some time digging through the german Jagd und Hund forums. And right now i'm busy with work and organising the driven hunt we have in Germany this weekend (40 rifles, on boar, roe, reddeer).

    Shooting an underlever.

they still expand, just leadfree. They have good end ballistics

    Shooting an underlever.

In Germany (where the lead-free rifle ammo story started, and I do most of my hunting) there were some cases of eagles killed bij leadpoisoning from eating guts from deer and boar left in the fields after gutting. Although a lot of places I can still shoot lead, I'm way to happy with the...

    Shooting an underlever.

The biggest downside to an underlever for me is the mandatory shooting of roundnose bullets. And with "lead-free" becomming mandatory in a lot of places, options are limited. Cone shaped bullets in a tube magazine is a disaster waitig to happen...

    Rifle opinions

One of the reasons the straight-pull designs like the Blaser R8/R93, Merkel Helix and Heym SR30 are so popular in continental europe. The benefits of a boltaction but still bloody fast, and more than 2 rounds.

    Rifle opinions

Love them! along with the Merkel Helix and the Heym SR30. That said, the 30-06 boltaction Haenel Jäger10 take care of pretty much any situation. Although I recently borrowed a double rifle in 9,3*74 and I love it on driven hunts on boar because of the quick followup shot. Along with a severely...

    New Scope!

In germany it is (in most Bundesländer) only allowed for kill-shots when tracking wounded game. Mostly because of the completely unpredictable flightpath of the slug. How come its not feasible? It quickly gaining popularity in Germany. High energy, flat trajectory. Ideal for driven hunts and...

    New Scope!

.270win is pretty friendly compared to the .30-06spr of 7*64. 110gr Barnes TTSX is a nice one for pretty much anything deer. .270win might be a tat light for boar, but thats more a continental consideration. .308win is also a good option as an all-round as are 7*57 and 6,5*55SM. I use .30-06spr...

    boar spear?!

Although we've wandered off a bit from hunting a boar with a pointy stick, just a little story from this weekend to show how tough boars can be. On a driven hunt a big boar was shot in the front leg with the bullit passing through the lower chest, the caliber was .300WSM. Said boar kept on...
