    Well, after feeling very pleased with myself, I nearly managed to kill them. I popped two in the brooder and they seemed fine, wandering out to explore, then rushing back under the brooder plate for warmth. However, late afternoon I get a call from my wife to say they are both collapsed outside...

    Well, success! 4 of the 8 have hatched so far. The first two have been moved into the brooder. I have put stones in the drinker as I have read quail chicks are excellent at drowning themselves.

    The eggs arrived this evening. I’m going to leave them at room temperature until tomorrow, then move into the incubator.

    I have one for my bees: an Rcom Insect 70. It has adjustable heat, so I assume it should be fine for the job?

    I have been inspired. I have just ordered 6 fertilised quail eggs. I’m looking forward to having a go at hatching them. I’m going to go and pick up some plywood now and start making a brooder and hutch.

    Yes, trying to pull them off usually just adds to the problem. When threatened they produce lots of babies that are released into the tank, compounding the problem. The Filefish is my backup option. It’s definitely a good shout. I introduced a few Peppermint Shrimp, but they disappeared...

    I’m currently running a few tanks, but this is my display tank. It’s my first dabble with marine fish and corals. Unfortunately, it’s looking ugly at the moment due to an invasion of Aiptasia (little anemones) that have been annoying many of my corals.
