Have you tried powdered milk? It is not bad at all, IMO. My brew kits always include a 60 ml Nalgene HDPE bottle of powdered milk, and a tiny Keith TItanium spoon.
My understanding is that the commercial printing on most current-production boil-in-the bag meals can leach into the boiling water, so consumers are warned not to consume the latter.
Probably no big risk if you are only having a treat once in a blue moon.
Whilst I’ve done no quasi-scientific testing, in my experience the use of a lid is far less important than the use of a windscreen. Frankly I’m not sure that the absence of a lid makes any significant difference ... which perhaps is why they weren’t military issue with USGI canteen cups, and BCB...

Quite correct. There are undoubtedly one or two situations where it would be handy -indeed, essential - to be able to tie a bowline singlehanded. Fortunately, those situations almost never arise.

I would agree that tying a bowline one-handed is more of a trick than a practical skill. With few exceptions, bowlines are used not merely to tie a loop, but to tie a loop around some object.
