Bark River Knives (BRKT) out of business - Chinese blades marked Made in USA

Bark River's terrible customer service is well documented. It seems they could and did produce decent knives at times but it was always hit and miss. Glad I never touched them.

    What are you currently reading?

I finished the Dune prequels last week which were okay but... I'm about halfway through the original Dune now and the writing is in another league.

    Forgotten Snacks

I can't remember who made them but I recall a beef and mustard flavour. I love mustard and wasabi or any other spice that'll blow my socks off.

Forgive me father for I have sinned

One of my first knives was a Puma with torx screws and most of them fell out! Spyderco obviously decided "not on my watch!"

    What's your go-to Spyderco?

I think after experiencing nice, thick, rounded handle scales on other knives, the blocky slabs on most Spydercos feel starkly inferior. That said, how often do you use a knife for more than a minute? In which case that level of comfort isn't a huge issue. I have a Resilience and it's been...

    Growing edible cover for Pheasants

What kind of land is it? Are we talking open fields that could be cultivated or lumpy bumpy heathland? Why is there no cover? Has it been picked bare by sheep or deer for example?

    News sources

I'm torn between not falling into Gell-Mann amnesia and not throwing the baby out with the bath water. There has to be some allowance for inaccuracy /bias.

You could ask Paul Kirtley, he literally has a podcast by this name. He's answered this question before but not necessarily specifically for Scotland.

    Wooden Chopping Boards

Years ago my friend had a marble cutting board. I don't know who thought that was a good idea. Someone who hates sharp knives presumably.

Craighill-desk-knife. Candidate for worst edged tool ever.

If I was confident it would increase in value as a collector's piece I might be tempted. In the way one might view an expensive watch for example. Chances are it'll be banned by the government before it appreciably appreciates.

Craighill-desk-knife. Candidate for worst edged tool ever.

Looks like the maker thought the governor's office door handle would make a nice shiv!

    Survival Tins - Updates

I think it's 1945 and I still use it. Not bad for an 80 year old bit of kit!

    Survival Tins - Updates

Did Britain copy the Jerry can pretty quickly or were ours a similar design already? The reason I ask is that I have a British one stamped WD (war department) which is the Jerry can as we know it today. I also have a WWII USA one with the screw in cap which is clearly not as sublime a design.
