    Bivy options with Snugpack softie

Some civilian kit is overpriced, all branding and marketing. Other civilian kit is the best there is for it’s intended purpose. If you want to sleep in a wet field with a rifle next to you ready for a quick exit, military gear is for you. If you want to push the limits of what you can do...

I’m not saying huddling together for warmer doesn’t work or that it’s never happened, just that modern alpine sleeping bag are not designed to be used like that for maximum warmth. I think it’s just that side zips lose less heat and in a tent there is little benefit of a central zip. I hear...

That’s a lot of information but I’m struggling to find and answer in there. I think you are saying you use a foam mat outside the bivy and not an inflatable inside, as many others do. Very much appreciate all the input but I have to question a couple of you points. Having read a lot of...

Sounds like this set up doesn’t have mat in bivy? Surely if you want a mat in your bivy, you have to wriggle around in side to stay on it not roll over the whole bivy. Under this set up wouldn’t a side zip be preferable?

Is there space for a mat in the SF bivy? A lot of people seem to favour this set up.

Tarp and Sleeping bag - no bivy bag

Yeah, I realise it’s basically the same question. I posted in new arrivals and someone suggested posting here too. Wrong bag… this makes sense now I’ve read all the comments… Humm, I can see the Softie going on eBay

Tarp and Sleeping bag - no bivy bag

Thanks for all the info guy. Ok, I’m thinking of going for a Snugpak bivy. If I find it awkward I’ll install a side zip. It looks the same as the SF bivy but the top zip won’t line up with my bag. Question, why do people go for the SP1 over the softie 6, they the same weight but the softie6...

For 1.5gk my Terra Nova Superlite Voyager is a bomb proof palace, great for poor weather in the mountains. I want the outside feel but don’t want to carry more weight than my tent… just feels wrong Nothing to prove regarding being a real man so I’m thinking stasha (already got) and snugpak...

    Bivy options with Snugpack softie

All good info, thanks guys! Question, why do people go for the SP1 over the softie 6, they the same weight but the softie6 claims colder rating. I like to travel light so leaning towards the snugpak. Maybe I’ll make life difficult for myself and get their standard bivy and install a side zip.

By the river there were plenty of bug and I was sure I was gonna get eaten alive but I smidged up face, neck, hands and to my amazement didn’t get a single bite. A sown in net does appeal but I want to go as full nature as possible. Sounds like it will be a good investment. Currently leaning...

Thanks for the replies, I'll try posting something there too. Considering the dutch military or Snugpak stratosphere at one end of the scale or a Snugpak Special Forces at the other end. I want to be as open as possible, as that's the whole point (for me at least). I'll use my snugpak self...

Tarp and Sleeping bag - no bivy bag

I'm wanting to do some sleeping wild this summer and I'm after some advice. I got a Snugpak Softie 6 last year and used it under a tarp with no bivy. On a river bank the tarp had a lot of dew on it but my sleeping bag almost none. If I took the tarp away (so I can see the stars) would the dew...

Hi all, OK quick intro, I've done plenty of walking in the hills, shambling, climbing and mountaineering. My parents walked and climbed and while I hated it as a kids, it undoubtedly instilled a sense of adventure in me. I have a young family now which is making longer adventure problematic...
