    I have a Swiss Army knife with a blade that obviously exceeds the legal carry limit. How should I go about reducing the blade's length without damaging the rest of the blade? Advice appreciated.

    Tent seam sealing

    I have made extensive use of McNett Sil Net on all my silnylon projects. Never fails! Cranmere is right. DIY mixes are too messy and unreliable to my mind.

    Can't see this being any good as a shovel or as an axe. Lou makes a pertinent observation and I've never seen one used in this country by any Fire Service. Spades dig holes, shovels move coal and axes chop wood. Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh.

    Home made tarp

    Use double-sided adhesive tape on seams and hems to stop the fabric slipping when sewing. Seal seams with Sil Net which sticks to siliconised fabric.
