    Lightweight gear - help needed

Thanks Sandbender.....I'll put that on my list, although the rucksack will probably be on my list of 'second buys'. Weight is a crucial issue, and I won't forget to take account of the empty pack weight as well as the weight of the individual items of gear! Thanks again

    Lightweight gear - help needed

Initially £250. If I can make this 'stick' I'll come back and upgrade elements later. That can exclude the rucsac, as it isn't immediately essential. Thanks for asking!

    Lightweight gear - help needed

OK, I am returning to the forum after much too long away, so please forgive the entry-level nature of this post, and help if you can. Having previously disposed of (given away) all my old gear a while back, I am now looking to start occasional 2-3 season solo camping again. Obviously with the...

Ham Hill is OK 'out of hours'. Nasty chavvy pub on top of the hill, but plenty of ways to get away from it, especially at liminal time, sunset etc. No camping though. Otherwise, around Glastonbury itself is a bit busy with people....will have a think....

Sounds great - thanks for that. Want to get good quality this time, as have some money (at last) - stuff that will last a while, not just budget/cheapest. Plan to spend a whole lot of outdoors time in these outers!

    Greetings from Somerset, England

We've got no intention of *not* going through the due process. I have no sympathy for the people who deal with the situation by sticking up a yurt in a field and hoping no-one notices for four years, and then selling a 'sob story' to the press when they get served. We are still deciding on a...

Presently just outside Yeovil if anyone wants to get in touch - we drive, so reasonable distance not a problem......Looking at Devon and Cornwall as well if anyone has any intelligence re planning depts.

    Greetings from Somerset, England

Hi all I've posted an intro somewhere way back in the distant past, but have been inactive here for so long that I thought I would re-post as a means of starting again. I live in beautiful Somerset, in the South West, with my equally beautiful DW....we are interested in all kinds of...

    Winter camping sleeping arrangements

Now that's *definitely* a thought.......thank you. Have found a great-looking army surplus place in Exeter which I plan to check out for sleeping bags etc very soon. Also my casual 'day shoes' (which are 'nearly' boots) have given up the ghost this week (sole/upper separation - not good) and...

    Winter camping sleeping arrangements

We've already got lightweight, self inflating airbeds, but they don't really do it for me, especially in winter.....just not enough insulation between body and ground - even with a mat on top of the bed. And I still wake up aching and stiff. I think a 'proper' camp bed is the way to go......just...

Certainly looks great! I think Mrs P would take some persuading though ;)

    Greeting from Somerset

I've always found the staff in OB *and* Millets to be a pretty friendly and knowledgeable bunch. Thanks for the Peacocks tip. Next buy really needs to be waterproof overtrousers though.....

    Non expensive kit

I've got a fleece and outer shell from Oswald Bailey and I have to say the quality is really poor. Will buy a decent one from (maybe) Blacks or something from army surplus next time. Has anyone else experience of OB (vs Millets, for example)?
