$45 CND!!!!!! Yikes! I think I bought my 1010 for $12 CDN and my 1030 fo $18 CDN. I think I've seen containers similar to the Sistema Klip-IT at Walmart. I'll have to have a closer look next time. I have a dozen or so tins from a variety of candy/cold makers, my wife thinks I'm nuts.

I've used the Pelican 1010 and 1030 and they are SOLID. If you ever break one, they replace it. They are waterproof and they float. You can look at the full case lineup here : http://www.pelican.com/products.html Just click on the specification table link.

    sleeping bag nesting

It is really hard to determine how much warmer you'll be when nesting bags inside one another. Sleeping bag warmth comes from how much loft you have, as well as the bag configuration. Quite often nesting bags will compress them reducing the loft of each bag. Unless the bag has been designed to...

    Warm Trousers?

I've never worn tights, but I know the first layer against my skin in the cold is always something very light and highly breathable. So tights would probably work pretty well. If your being active, moving the condesation away from your skin is pretty important. The layers help move the dew point...

    Featherstick technique

In my experience "feather sticks" are only used to get a fire going. Even then if you have good conditions and good wood you won't need them. Where I've seen "feather sticks" really shine is when you've got crappy wood and poor conditions for a fire. The idea behind a "feather sticks" is that to...

    did your parents...

In my adult life, I've come to realize how lucky I was as a child. Growing up, my parents didn't have tons of money to take the kids on holidays. So every holiday was spent camping/canoeing/backpacking. As a kid here it was totally free, all you had to do was get there .... I've still never been...

    Hi

Thanks everyone. Actually Alberta is pretty warm right now. We are getting daytime highs around -4C and nighttime lows around -15C. All in all, great winter weather for outdoor persuits. We haven't had as much snow this winter as would be normal, but still enough to have fun in.

    Hi

Hi everyone, Looks like a great place you have here. Just wanted to drop a quick note to say hi. I'm an avid outdoorsman and I have a great passion for the wilderness. I spend most of my free time stomping around the backcountry here in Canada. I recognize a few names from here and I'm...
