    What are you currently reading?

I did however notice there was a difference between Granny in Equal Rites and Granny in Wyrd Sisters / Witches Abroad, and had put it down to character development.

    What are you currently reading?

I ... didn't realise that split had happened. Oops And that's having read Equal Rites, Wyrd Sisters, and Witches Abroad, more than once (albeit a good while ago).

    News sources

In my various furtlings here, I saw a thread titled "Is 'preparedness' a state of mind?" by @GreyCat (thank you) and picking up on that idea, a so-called prepping channel that appears to intentionally stoke a sense of fear and threat is unhelpful in that regard.

    News sources

In honesty I would prefer not to see alarmist clickbait headlines in attention-grabbing colours like the one visible in the image of that video. One of the things I've been keeping an eye on is less whether the site is left-wing, right-wing, centrist etc, and more the extent to which its...

It was Scouting that got me into Bush Crafting, can any other claim the same?

Hey that's OK, nothing to be sorry for :) As it happens I'd thought something like that number too, but didn't bother including it in my post!

It was Scouting that got me into Bush Crafting, can any other claim the same?

The most recent info about numbers of Guides I can currently find is dated 2022: "Girlguiding, the leading charity for girls and young women, has reported a 20 per cent increase in its young membership (members aged 4-18) since 2021 from 239,222 up to 290,468."...

It was Scouting that got me into Bush Crafting, can any other claim the same?

I can see your point, and I know you're not having a go at me :) It's a tricksy and sensitive thing to navigate, especially when those of us who tend to the more tomboyish (including me) didn't get on with the culture in 1980s Guides, which seemed to hold particular expectations of what it...

It was Scouting that got me into Bush Crafting, can any other claim the same?

I wish I could have been a Scout, I didn't get on very well at Guides. It was all confined to the school hall so it was more like a youth club with uniforms, and we didn't do anything at all outside. My nerdy knowledge of the Great Lakes in the north Americas was not well received by the Guide...

Is Die Hard really a Christmas film?

I'm coming to this a couple of months late (or ten months early, take your pick) yes, Die Hard is a Christmas film. also love: Muppet Christmas Carol and the Doctor Who Christmas special, of which there sadly wasn't one for 2025 (hopefully there will be one this year). I could have dug out the...
