    Water proofing

I use a 44 pattern water bottle pouch to keep my Crusader 2 mug and whichever water bottle is needed and an old Soviet gas mask pouch for the cook kit and food. They're ideal except their lack of water proofing. I have some Nik Wax Cotton Proof on the way, Will this do the trick or are there...

    What did you buy today?

Used it a couple of times on day hikes, incredibly light in your pack if a little bulky, the cup and stand are fairly good wind blockers (so far) when used together, only criticism I have is the inwards facing indentation on the bottom of the cup is really annoying when you're cooking in it. You...

    What did you buy today?

The BCB Crusader 2 canteen cup and stand didn't sell itself to me till I picked it up, then I bought it. It's really light and tough for the size of the thing. If you don't need a new canteen cup don't pick up the Crusader 2 in the shop, it's tough to put it down again!!

    What did you buy today?

There's quite a bit of moaning about the Mora Robust's on Youtube, haven't had any problems with mine, haven't heard anything bad about your work tops on Youtube!!

    Surplus On Ebay

I'll give credit where credits due, SFrankish has never let me down, in fact I've had some top notch gear from there, recently got an East German mess kit, it was unused and hardly a scratch on it. You might pay a pound or two more than some sellers but it's usually top drawer.

    Surplus On Ebay

I got a Dutch plastic water bottle with DPM pouch (grade 1), the pouch had been ''waterproofed'' with boot polish and the belt clips were rusty. A Dutch aluminium water bottle that was totally oxidised, A French aluminium water bottle that had a substance in the bottom of it with the consistency...

    Surplus On Ebay

Good Idea, I've got a few bargains from charity shops but for some reason I've never done the car boot thing, there's no excuse either, two big car boots are fairly close to me. Time has been limited last year so when a bit of spare time comes up, out comes the boots/rucksack and some walking...

The 'I've found a bargain' thread

I know in January/February the Sports Direct website does tonnes of things dirt cheap, last year I got a huge carrier bag full of all the things that need replacing for buttons, solid fuel blocks, rucksack covers, tent pegs, mosquito head net (destroyed using it to cool beers in a river) dry...

    Article: Water-to-Go: Water Filtration System

Thank you for the review, I must admit I can't fully fathom water filtration systems in that there is the possibility of chemical run off from farmers fields and even storm drains in some parts of the UK, which ones would get rid of that? Your Water To Go...

    Surplus On Ebay

I used to have 2/3 sellers you could trust but I've even seen items on their sites now which are just playing on peoples lack of knowledge, I suppose they have to compete with the rip off artists.

    Surplus On Ebay

    Surplus On Ebay

I get that impression, they buy in a job lot, the good stuff goes quickly and half the time you end up with the tatty junk that's left at the end.

    More Mora Or Less Mora???

Yeah, didn't know as the only places I've seen Mora's in shops were in the states and they were boxed and packaged.

    More Mora Or Less Mora???

Thanks! Good to know, At least I know I haven't been palmed off with an unfinished article, I want to grind the spine so it can be used on a metal match anyway.

    More Mora Or Less Mora???

Hello!! I purchased a Mora Robust Pro from Springfields, upon arrival it was just stuffed in a Jiffi bag with no packaging (an immediate red flag) and the finish didn't go as far as the spine which is black and looking a bit strange. Is this normal or have I been sold a lemon??

Repairing the Osprey/58 pattern water bottle

I succeeded using a lighter flame flickered gently over the hole and a cold knife blade to reshape the plastic, the plastics too delicate to use heated knife blades. All the thought on this thread on how to fix the bottle is a part of bush craft I really like. It's all well and good throwing...

Repairing the Osprey/58 pattern water bottle

I've heard (though not tried) you can repair small holes in plastic water bottles (in that emergency situation) by melting para cord strands and patching it with that. A plastic bag would be much better on your larger fold away bottles and they're the ones you forget to replace before they get...

Repairing the Osprey/58 pattern water bottle

Just out of interest, if you just flicker a lighter flame over the hole then cover the hole with the heated plastic, using a small unheated knife blade, it can work. If you heat the knife blade and try it that way, it's really easy to send the knife right through the bottle.

Repairing the Osprey/58 pattern water bottle

I'll have a buzz at repairing it just for the experience, you never know when that experience might come in handy. The people out there who say Osprey 58 patterns are ''bomb proof'', I've found over the years they're more reliable than some but they're far from bomb proof. I'll get one more...
