Fire safety in a peaty forest area.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look at getting a folding stove. I have a portable BBQ but that's quite big to carry. Thanks.

Fire safety in a peaty forest area.

I've been camping in a certain forrest a couple of times now. The ground is peat soil so I haven't had a fire. If I dig a hole would it be a safe method to have a fire? It's been raining recently so the ground has been damp. I'm not sure how flammable it really is. I dug down about a foot. The...

    If so how are they?

Anybody know where to get a shangri la 2 or similar tent?

Looks like they don't make them anymore but they look lightweight and strong.

What is the best 3 man tent under £200?

So do you think the banshee would be ok in winter? I'm hoping to winter camp at some point or at least have the flexibility to do that.

What is the best 3 man tent under £200?

I'm looking for the best value tent under £200. Mainly for wildcamping. Sometimes solo sometimes with one other person. But it needs to be reliable. I've been in a bad situation at the top of skafell if it wasn't for my friends very expensive but strong tent, things could have ended badly...

Where to buy a US Modular sleep system?

I probably would have got the carinthia but I've only just found out about them. I didn't know I had anymore replies until now. I love my MMS though. Only used the patrol and bivy bag so far and they're very good. I slept like a baby paired with a multimat34 summit SI.. Your right it is huge. It...

    Best sleeping mat under £40

Good recommendation I love it! I actually slept better on the mat then I do in my own bed. I'm just paranoid about punctures now. This had got to be one of if not the best self inflating for £40 surely.

    Best sleeping mat under £40

Good tips both of you thanks. I have a cheap summer ccf mat I'll cut up and take with me. Good idea. In the end I was torn between the multimat NATO 35s and the summit expedition 38.. They're about the same price new. I like surplus gear and the NATO looks very tough but thought I'd be a little...

    Best sleeping mat under £40

what do you think? I will be bivy and sometimes hammock camping. Just got an MSS. Can anybody reccomend? Preferably one I could use all year round. I don't care about bulk too much. I've seen a 15mm thick Dutch army surplus ccf. Any good? Or what are the dd or snugpak self inflators like?

Where to buy a US Modular sleep system?

These look great. I'm looking to buy one but I can't find any where in the uk that's selling them. They're all in the U.S at surplus stores. Can anybody recommend a U.S surplus store or point me in the right direction? And yes there's one on eBay in the uk but it's a fake not a tennier...

Curly birch handle. Staining with walnut. Linseed oil

Has anybody here stain a curly birch handle with walnut coulour stain? I think it will really emphasise the difference in grain. Going to pantina the blade and coat the handle in bees/carnuba wax. I like the dull shine. Should I use boiled linseed after I've stained it for extra protection...

Never forget the Danger of Deadfalls

Had a close call a few weeks ago. Was set up at glyn e mul, Wales. Great place. Woods with a River running through. Camped up the valley from the river as it had been pissing down all day and it looked pretty rapid. Later on the river started flooding and wiping out the clearings for camps by...
