Yes, any discussion of weapon laws or self defence tends to have a downwards curve ...

My past hobby was trolling lawyers with illogicalities in law, it usually got them quite mad, strange, very little sense of humour. Then I married one and have had to restrict my hobby somewhat.

Hmmm... tactical bushcraft thingies to win over the weekend: raingear, good shoes, water and insectproof tent, lighter, warm sleeping bag, alcohol stove a gas one in an emergency like sudden craving for tea, some dark rhum, oh and something to eat. About 4 edged tools. With these I am more tacticool than most SAS soldiers.

As long as the Rum is Pussers Rum.

Used to supply the Brititish Navy.
So very much a Tactical drink.
Also Rose’s Lime Cordial.
They wanted the sailors to keep their teeth, as a last line of defence.
Or because the hard tack was so hard?

If you mean a Trangia Alcohol stove, it is a civilian invention, later used my the military.

Many here would say it is not Tactical, or even Defensive, but offensive.

At the risk of being boring by going back to the original post, 'tactical' is generally associated with the military and, for products sold to the general public, is a marketing ploy. Although I note that, when more closely linked to the armed forces it can be mean 'cheapest', its semantic field is now rather wider and includes colour (usually olive, drab or even camouflage), design (functional), construction (generally heavier, hard wearing and 'squaddie-proof') and purpose (for use in the outdoors or in circumstances of greater physical duress than the average 9 to 5 office job). Because of its association with elite forces, it carries with it a quiet, heroic romanticism that makes such branded products more appealing. Or at least that's what I reckon! :)

On the third hand I have tactical summer holiday bar attack shorts from Helikontex that have a wonderfull amount of pockets besides being the most comfortable ones I have ever had.

I wonder what a tactical pensioners bus pass would look like? One that is so cunning in it's design that you convince the driver that it is past nine thirty, by stealth and strategy.

You are all wrong....about the tactical bus pass.
Camouflage isn't of much significance in the tactical market. It is all about design, features and materials.
Tactical bus pass would need to be etched titanium, with the option of black DLC, and be designed to integrate with matching slimline carbon fibre carrier, spring loaded for rapid access (deployment).

Ti would be a bad choice here as local passes operate on NFC so no metall or advanced CF composites. Ofcourse one could paint it grey and play the Greyman.

The times I've seen items on sale described as Tactical its usually been matt black and often a bit more stabby than usual.

For evidence of this just put Tactical into Ebay and see what gear it throws up.

In short, its sometimes decent gear affeced by advertising toss, or sometimes just toss but if you think a kind of stabby pen will stop you from getting pasted on Botchergate on a Friday night then you might be getting into trouble you cant get out of.

After being in enough trouble in my life the conclusion Ive come to (I'm oviously a slow learner by the way) is that I would have been better off just ambling away from about 90% of it.
The other 10% or so I suspect was unavoidable at the point when it kicked off but even some of that I should have been able to think up more diplomatic ways of sorting ahead of time.

The best form of self defense is to avoid trouble before it happens.
