HI guys.

just a quick note to say thanks for the kind messages. I'm now home after having about a foot of my stomach removed. It looked like my appendix however when they opened me up (key hole) they found a lump of tissue attached near my appendix. Without pathology they decided to treat it as nasty, and removed a 6" section on either side, including my appendix.
Meanwhile it looks like I won't make this next meet so sorry about that, but catch you at the next one!!

Jase @ Sam.

(And well done to Karl btw)

Watch out for "special stuff" sausages next time.

Home and feeling a bit rough, it's been a tough 3 days! Glad it's all over now. But they said it could be 6 weeks before I can drive again! Seems way to long to me!!

Some of you may have heard of Wiggy http://www.wiggys.com/

By all accounts he's a fairly fiery character, and seems to have been banned from most US bushcraft sites for somewhat aggressive defense of his products! And he makes some fairly outrageous claims for them. Having said all that, his products - if not his interpersonal skills - seem to get exceptional reviews (apart from people he's irritated with his various website antics).

Anyway, I bought a load of his stuff, which will be the backbone of my attempts to keep warm in the Norwegian woods next January, so I'll be able to bring you a better review then. However, I'll be bringing some of it along to the meet on Friday evening/Saturday morning if anyone wants a look. This will include his insulated hooded poncho ( a brilliant idea imho), pack-boots with his own inserts, his fortress sleeping bag system (XL Superlight and outer zipped together with a temp rating of -40F), Antarctic Parka (modestl called "The warmest parka on the market") and balaclava thingy ("Insulated Head Cover").

I spoke to him, and exchanged emails, several times (and how often do you phone a sizeable operation and the CEO answers?!) Whilst these conversations could best be described as relatively abrupt (he'd never make a telesales person!), he was to the point and helpful re his responses, and the service in terms of delivery first-class. I've looked at the gear, and it all appears very well-made and workmanlike, if not aesthetically at the forefront of modern design - Jon Paul Gautier probably wouldn't approve:) If it does 50% of what he claims, I'll be more than happy. The thing that swung me to buy his stuff was a) his lifetime guarantee (which appeared to be backed up from virtually all the reviews I've seen, even for decades-old gear), and secondly his assertion that he is the only sleeping bag manufacturer in the world who will tell you to machine-wash his gear after every trip, and that the loft will not suffer as a result (and it will be covered by lifetime guarantee if it does!).

They said that to me after my hip replacement. Luckily they didn't see me drive my car away from the hospital, two days after the operation....:)
