It's possibly an emergency sleep bag. Once you release it from its vacuum packaging all the cells (think bubble wrap) fill with air to make an insulating bag.

On the other hand, I could be completely wrong; I can't read the writing :)

Yeah it is a vacuum packed survival bag, once you break the seal you will never get it back in.

They seem to sell for about a fiver.
We used to have bright orange ones. Great for keeping the wind and rain off, but ye gods a sweaty mess.

Somewhere I still have a brown paper one. Must be sixty years old. It's sort of layers of strong fibre rich paper. It weighs so much there's no way to pack it easily. It's labelled a survival bag too.

Where did I read about the paper ones? Cant recall.

I also have the space blanket, though it is obvious what that is.

Also very tight packed compared to the regular ones.
