Here and there
Sleeping bag liner
tow rope
jump leads
Medial kit
boots
Bodywarmer
Hat
waterproof jacket
Bottle of water
wind up torch
book
shovel
Fleece blanket
gloves

This is mainly for winter. For summer it's much lighter.
I figure it's good for one night. I always go out in a coat, so if I were sleeping in the car, I'd have that and all the spare clothing, blanket etc, should it get really chilly. I wouldn't be trying to dig myself out at night, just staying put. That's what the book's for.

West Devon, Edge of Dartymoor!
All year round I carry:

Torch
First aid kit (must learn to use that properly sometime )
Jump leads
Tow rope
wheel brace
Folding shovel
12-volt compressor thingy
waterproof coat
bulb kit
a couple of 12hour chemical light sticks
warning triangle.

If it's subzero i add a Sabre 45 containing:

wooly jumper
down jacket
mittens
wooly hat
waterproof over trousers
small gas stove + FULL gas canister
Ti-lite mug to heat water in
tupperware box containing hot chocolate sachets, cup-a-soups, noodles, choccy bars, oatcakes and snickers bars + lighter + matches + spoon to eat with!!
head torch + spare batteries
2 x 12hour light sticks + 2 x 30 minute high brightness lightsticks
2l of water - replaced weekly.
small kit of 'useful stuff' like gaffa tape, seamgrip, sewing kit (used by a colleague this morning :)), 10m of paracord, tinder pouch with tinder, firesteel and another lighter.

I take the rucksack in the house when i get home so the water doesn't freeze ;)

in addition, in the boot I carry
Walking boots + gaiters
Jerven Fjellduken Thermo hunter + hi-vis rescue flag
full size aluminium Snow shovel
Set of Autosocks for the car tyres :)

I always carry a leatherman and a small torch on my belt.
In my pockets I'll have disposable tissues and at least one lighter.

thats one big car boot you have there !! LOL !
you want to see the amount of work related kit that's in there with it!

to be fair, all the extra winter kit would fit in the sabre 45 if I tried... and the 'year round' stuff is either in the glovebox, or in a holdall that measures about 18" long by 8" wide by 10" high

oh, and my drive to the office involves crossing Dartmoor

Sorry about the last post but i couldn't resist it .

I drive a ex police riot van and it has everything in it .
couple of tents, 4 sleeping bags, mats ,tarps,
all my cooking kit+food+25litre of water, knives ,axes, boots ,clothing and waking gear
tool kit for van and tow kit .
we had a roofrack built for it to take our four sit on top kayaks.
on a friday morning we can load all our kayak gear ,clothes and food on board
pick the kids up at lunchtime and be up in the highlands tent up food on the go by 5pm.It's a big van with lots of room but driven properly dosn't cost a fortune to run.

I've always got an overnight bag in the boot that includes a complete change of clothes, a good waterproof, a light down jacket , hat gloves and baseball cap. Other bits in the bag include a wind up/ solar radio/ torch/ ish charger for mobile phone, led mini mag, lighter, sak, leatherman copy, several cereal bars. Toothbrush, tiny toothpaste and hand wash gel. Also OS maps of local and surrounding area.
Also in the boot are bottles of water, cheap sleeping bag, picnic blanket, first aid kit, duct tape, string, tow rope, jump leads. Few other tools.
A bag of stuff for the dogs, couple of days dog food, bowl, dog bags, towels.
I'm looking to cover being stranded for a night to the house burning down and the contents of the car being all I've got. Maybe I worry too much.

Summer it's mostly the same minus shovel and the gloves are non insulated. Also the chocolate tends to melt so that's usually eaten in spring.
