what and where ????? kata or tipi ??

Hello all im wondering about a kata or a tipi and where to get one as i still use a basha or a tent
im wondering if they are heavy to carry and the poles do you cut new ones every time you strike a camp ??????
and secondly how much do they cost what type to go for and where to get one

if anybody has one and would tell me about this kit please leave a note as im thinking of getting a new tent this year so im thinking of getting one of the above !!!!!!!!!

I would make myself or if I have the money buy one of the light weight onces when I am on tour alone.

TIPI
I would build or buy a real tipi after the original sioux design. I would have it as a alternative to a cottage, having it up all the year and winter with a strong in inner lining etc. I don't believe it would be practical to be in the need of cutting all the time trees. There are as well places where it is impossible like the fjälls and the nature parks, privet own land etc.

i have a Moskosel Kåta, its the arran5 lite.. and you may if you wish carry just the meterial bit and cut a pole (i only needs one) and pegs when you get to your camp.. if you use it in this way it weighs little more than and takes up not much more space than a tarp.. however if you carry the pole and peg they dont weigh much being made of aluminum! its a really great system remember though that these typs of tent dont have a floor so you will need to take in to consideration that you will be sleeping on the ground!

there are a few other companys doing the same kind of Kåta/Tipi like this made from modern materials but moskoselkåtan seem to be the best..

a more tradtional Tipi is more of a perminant dwelling like a Yurt wich can be moved but it takes much time an effort as they are large and do not pack small... here are some address for makers in the UK

these typs of tent are becoming more and more popular and there are several new companys now making tipis and yurts.. but they are big money!!!

any excuse to show it off... heres my kata..

it great to have a tent you can stand up in to put your trousers on.. and you dont have to get out to put the kettle on (thought you might have to get wood ;-))

We use an Arran 5 Light most of the time now. It weighs very little, and you have to option of either carrying the pole (which breaks down into several sections) or cutting your own (the string you get to place your pegs is the same overall length as the pole).

Easy to pitch, light weight, and you can stand up in it.

There are several businesses that supply these, so shop around and see what the best price is.

As for the floor, you can either buy one or make one.

forgot to mention also you can suspend it from a branch too!!
