I purchased a tarp (silicone-nylon) 2.1 m x 2.9 m. It is really light and compact (670 g) Any suggestions on different configurations for set-up. All I have done is an A-frame style between two trees or my trekking poles. I am curious to see other peoples set-ups and experiences. I have slept under this in a rain storm with no problems. I don't have a hammock I use a therm-a-rest with a poncho as a ground sheet.

hazel bows bent to form an arch... almost like the top half of a big pipe sticking out of the ground.

the typical a frame way is very good though... it's nice to bunch it all up and sleep below the stars, when you reel rain drops just pull it back over yourself ;)

Here are a few links to get you started. Telling the tale better than I could.

This web page tells with text and line drawings just about every way there is to rig a tarp, covering square and rectangular shaped tarps of various sizes.
http://www.equipped.org/tarp-shelters.htm

Right clicking on the next link will download the the same infomation as the above link to a pdf file to your hd. The pdf link is also found near the top of the above web page.

Lennard,

Glad the links were of interest. I've been searching for tarp information myself and I've located another site which might be useful for you. You can just click the top link and then the 'next ' link at the bottom of each page, I just wanted to show there are five pages. Each drawing has recommendation for when it is best used.

Nice drawings of different tarp setups, but annoying popup adverts

http://jlum.tripod.com/backpack/tarps/tarps4.htm
http://jlum.tripod.com/backpack/tarps/tarps5.htm

Also don't neglect the search function on bushcraftuk, there are several tarp set up threads on this message board already. Several regular posters to this board have their own web pages with tarp rigging informaion and searching here will turn them up.

Different search words will filter it to more of what you're looking for . The same for using google. tarp, tarp setup, tarp shelter ,tarp rigging, tarp camping, etc.

This next link is not really tarp setup page, but if you're interested in tarping as a means to ligther packing there is plenty of ultralite backpacking information on it.

or http://onestep4me.tripod.com/ for the home page.

best regards,

David
