Suitable sharpener

Hello.
up until now, I have used a Granfors Axe stone in the field to sharpen my axes and knives. I was though, considering getting a DC3 diamond/ceramic stone to try out, but have read that it isn't all that suitable for use on carbon steel knives.Is this really the case?

Not true at all, I've used one for years in the field, and at home. They are great little tools and I highly recommend them.

same here I have used one for several years on carbon steel blades and never experianced any problems, highly recommended

You'll have no problem sharpening anything with the DC range of stones. I'd personally suggest the DC4, which is a bit bigger. You need to take care with these stones, as when held in the hand its very possible to cut yourself while sharpening.
