after years of trouble free motoring, my car died today.
looks like the bottom end of the engine is gone.
it died with a horrible death rattle.
i'm now a little depressed.

looks like i need a new engine.

i may have to put some of my prized posessions on e-bay to help pay for it. (on the bright side, i have a wilkinson sword woodlore i'm not using. the way they seem to be selling it may go some way to paying for it)

bad day for my bank account. this is going to cost me the thick end of a grand.

it's an MR2 so it's not really a bushcraft post but i love the car, i've had it for years.

sorry for venting.

Awww :(
Sorry Graham, bit of a bummer that. You've got all of those meets lined up and it's an expensive time of year anyway, too. Maybe it'll come in at less than you think; shame to have to sell a good knife.
At least the car didn't die on you on that road in the Lakes :eek:

Cheers, well not really,
Toddy

That's a real shame! Had cars die on my before and it's no fun.
At least it's a toyota - plenty of affordable parts and sensible engineering makes them relatively easy to fix. I'm surprised it only lasted 60k miles (if it's the one Ogri was on about).

Did you know about the problems they have with selling MR2's in France?

Thats the 5th car i heard of die in the last week. 3 colleagues at work all went within 2 days of each other all with either head gasket cracks or other problem related to overheating. Then my brother's died over the weekend, well needs a new powersteering belt and unit, and now yours.

Winter is a harsh time for engines eh!

Good luck getting your sorted. Sounds like it may be your pride and joy. :)

You can buy something more suitable now though!

i'm going to get it fixed. i'm not giving up yet.
anyway, it's done 80k. but i'm getting an engine out of a car with 30k on the clock.
it's getting a new timing belt and clutch before it goes in.

why do they have problems selling MR2s in france?

Never a truer word etc etc..
Oil gets thicker, so the engine is harder to start.
Plastic and rubber become brittle or more likely to tear.
You use much more power in running lights, heaters, demisters.
The salt on the road gets into places where it can cause all sorts of damage.

I'm going to shut up now as this'll be a curse on my vehicles.

If you say it in french:
M = "Em"
R = "Er"
2 = "Deux"

Which said quickly is "Merdeux", which sounds kind of like a french rude word (it's a family forum, can't say what but in English begins with S...)

Which reminds me of when Commodore tried to market the Vic 20 in the German market. (v is pronounced as f)

Or the attempted sale of white wedding dresses in China (white is the colour of death there)

Anyway, back to topic... Bad luck on the motor there mate, although it sounds like things are well in hand.

That's the spirit! When I lived in France I had an Citroen 2CV Dolly, what a car! I was depressed for weeks when it was smashed it to bits (not my fault).
