Hi guys I got myself a Joker 74 slippy yesterday after umming and ahhing over them for ages. Wish I'd got one sooner as I really love it!
The olive scales are gorgeous, the handle shape is a great width and comfy , the blade shape is ideal for most tasks (including spreading butter!) and the back spring is fantastically strong. The spring combined with a deep choil assure that the blade isn't going to close on my fingers. Also having the forefinger on the choil gives a nice four finger grip and brings the cutting edge safely right up to the hand. It going to be a great whittler!
Last night I gave the scales a rub in Olive oil and drove the blade into a spud. I pulled it out a few hours later and was surprised that the blade was barely affected! I then gave it a coating of mustard and left it longer but still no patina developed. It says Carbonno on the blade but I'm wondering if it is carbon steel as it is not tarnishing? Moras and Opinels seem to develop patina even when they're waved near spuds and apples! Anybody had a similar experience or have insight on Joker carbon blades?
Sos for the lack of pics I'll pop some on tonight. Cheers
