Made my other half a love spoon for Christmas, the first spoon I have ever attempted. An achingly beautiful object it isn't, but I reckon I'll get a gold star for making the effort!

Now this is probably a silly question, but I don't know the answer so I'll ask anyway: If I finish it with linseed oil tonight (Tuesday 20th), will it be 'dry' by Christmas?

Advice/suggestions/derision all welcome

Put it in a dry place and it will be fine. Make sure its not used for eating as the linseed will taste rank. I use walnut oil.

Boiled linseed oil is toxic and should not be used on spoons. Any food grade oil is fine including raw linseed oil.
Ah, cheers Wayne, I was coming back to edit, I think there are some other oils that are 'changed' after heating, not sure which.

Commercial "boiled liseed" is not so much boiled per-se as has a whole lot of nasty addatives to make it what it is....
"flax seed oil" from health food shops is food grade linseed oil and it goes off pretty much overnight - if it gets into your digestive system it does no more than "ease" your food through your digestive system :)
