Has anybody tried a hoof knife?

Hi has anybody tried a hoof knife as a spoon knife? The price is significantly less than a crook/spoon knife also it is possible to get interchangeable blades. I am considering a hoof knife but not sure how well it will hold up i wood.

I put a handle on one. Not a great spoon knife. The bevel is on the wrong side.

No... It's on the inside not the outside, nothing to do with handedness.

I had noticed the way it was ground simply thought this would make for a smoother cut.

Having the bevel on the top of the cutting edge forces the cut to go deeper and makes it hard to be precise.

Yup, I got one, took the blade out, bent it a bit more, profiled & sharpened it, remounted it.

It's not a bad thing, certainly more of a moccotugan (or however you spell it) than a spoon knife but certainly useable!

They work fine as a crook knife.

Ok thanks think I will take a chance even if it works well enough to remove the bulk of the wood for a bowl.
