Hi n a merry Christmas too you all.i received the sas survival hand book by lofty wiseman as a present this year.ive been flicking through the pages for a few days now and this afternoon I tried out a couple.first I built a figure 4 dead fall trap of which I did not take pics.sorry!.then I had a go at the netting exercise.its a bit rough round the edges but in a pinch I think it would suffice.

Excellent, are you going to use it to trap Santa next year?
Does make you wonder though, I used to sit with some of the old blokes in the harbour @ Crail as they made/mended nets. Some were petty big and fine and you wondered at the amount of time that went into them.
As near as I got was making the mesh for my homemade creels to keep me in lobster suppers.
Excellent skill to.have though as you can make all sorts from fruit hangers, to hammock, antibird netting... All sorts of stuff.
Top marks for your first go though... Better than mine was.

It's a skill I have fancied having a pop at for a while n never got round too.i was on holiday in semporna Sabah years ago n watched some fishermen mend their nets one evening.must have watched them for hours.cheers

Very nice for the first one made.
Did you use a needle and gauge or freestyle it?

Their was no needle or marking gauge.all done by hand with two very simple knots.a prusik securing the lines at the top n a simple over hand knot on the weaves.its a very basic/entry level method and super easy to do

Thanks for the vid.after finishing my first net last night I then proceeded too trawl YouTube and watch every instructional on net making I could find
