thought I'd get the kids etching today .
I covered the metal tin lid and blade in masking tape .
Printed out a negative picture and traced it onto the tape using carbon paper .
Then carefully cut the stencil out of the tape using just a Stanley .
We attached a 9v battery with speaker cable .
Put the (+) end on the metal , Kept in place with masking tape .
Wrapped the (-) around the fluffy end of a cotton bud and taped that in place too.
Mixed up salt & water in a glass jar till the salt stopped dissolving.
Dipped the bud in the solution & wiped off the drips on the jar .
then just painted in the stencil till it all went black.
Making sure we kept the bud wet but not dripping as we went .
And trying to go evenly over the whole picture & stencil.
We cleaned it off once and carried on till it went slightly pea green in colour.
washed them off and here are our First basic etching efforts .
