That's a good price in the UK. You need to add 4 quid postage which makes it just under 54 quid. Still it's a good deal and tempting.

This is a very basic model with no mapping but for the price it seems like a bargain. It's not geocaching ready but it is compatible with Memory Maps.

Very good, basic but it works. Had an accurate 10 figure grid ref 2 mins after turning it on

It has 12 channels and connects to a pc for uploading and downloading.
It can be as accurate as 1m with WAAS enabled.

Can`t find it on then website though.


Any ideas how the Etrex and 201 compare ???

Dunno, maybe geko slightly smaller but etrex has much better life for the batteries.
I have a GEko 101, and an Etrex Cammo.

101 is tiny, mobile phone sized but the screen is tiny, still used it in blizzards though.

IIRC, the Geko uses AAA batteries.

The etrex uses AA batteries (which have about 3 times the capacity of the AAAs)

Cough cough Sorry i can't see why this isn't suitable for geocaching this is a great wee unit which i have used for geocaching in the uk and oz , and all you need on the hills. ( you will of course have and know how to use a map and compass)

By the standards of what's being sold today yes it's basic. That doesn't mean it's not good or accurate it just doesn't have the wealth of features that more advanced models offer.

If you buy the next GPS up from the same store, the eTrex Legend for £99.99 (also a very good price) then you get mapping, a base map installed, 8MB memory, etc. You also get the PC cable included in the price. With the eTrex H the cable is NOT included so if you want to connect to a PC to use Memory Map then you need to buy a cable. A Garmin PC cable costs about £30 (you might get one cheaper on eBay). So you can add £30 to your £54 GPS and that equals £84.

Suddenly the eTrex H not quite such a good deal, around £14 (inc postage) more and you've got the Legend with cable and base map, etc.

Of course if you've no intention of connecting the GPS to a PC then it's a great deal.
