I'm planning on making my own simple folding buck saw...

can anyone advise me on the best wood to use with this?

I'm guessing something hard but from there I'm not to sure.

i would go for ash, its not just strong but nice and light aswell. oak mite be a bit heavy if your planning it to take it on trips.

24" is my choice.
I made one out of seasoned hazel wands once - it workrd well enough - though I would chose planed Ash these days

Daft question, but what kind of blade do you need to buy for one of these bucksaws? Do you get a deadwood or greenwood one, or is there a general inbetween one that works well for most bushcrafting? Thanks

you can use either, they just work slightly better for what they are designed for.
