There used to be (maybe still is) a wild boar 'farm' just outside Stock in Essex. They were always escaping.... not surprised that they are out and about in the wild.

Theres wild boar on Bodmin Moor, A kid got attacked last year, and since then, the councils had marksmen up there taking them out.

Never seen a wolf on Dartmoor. Seen a juvinille puma, and many times the results of what they do to the sheep.

About 15 years ago we heard and caught a fleeting glimpse of what looked like a Boar on the MOD Training area at Thetford. Didn't see it properly as it was not broad daylight, but my reckons it was Boar like.

MMMMmmmm wild piglet on a spit, how delicious would that be? just imagine catching one of those little squeelers, then watching it cook over an open fire on a spit ,the smell ,the anticipation of that succulent pork and crackling! im turning into pagan man! you wouldnt be hungry for a week. i always carry a little coil of wire so it would come in handy to tie the piggy to a stick. i think that would be smashing although theres no chanch of it happening over here. perhaps i,ll make a visit to my uncles pig farm.......weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I remember getting chased by a boar as a kid. In the New Forest. Very unpleasant critter.

Naughty Boy: I saw a big cat down in the brecons last year when I was bivvying. (I slept with one eye open that night I can tell you!)

shortly after i learnt of these animals we went bivvying in the mournes.i kept thinking about them till i fell asleep.during the night a was roused by a tugging on my bivvy bag at my back. i sorta came into consciousness but thought,,nah ,,and went back to sleep. next morning my mate said "a lot of good you were last night" i asked what he meant and he tols me a fox had woken him as it rummaged through the food bag at his feet[outside his bag].it took off sharpish with the bag of mince we had brought with us to make stew,
its my feeling that it was probably just a dog as i dont think a fox would be that game would it?

Well I'm not too sure as to just how bold foxes are but you want to keep an eye out for those badgers, mate of mine left his tent open during an evening and a badger went in for a rumage. When it wanted to leave(having consumed his sweeties), it 'dug' out through the other end leaving a bloomin great hole in his lovely dome tent! Overall that's pretty bold!

Be careful if pitching at night too not to do it over rabbit holes or near runs as they can try to get into your tent too!

OOOOhhh! and watch out for moles- I haven't heard of them damaging tents but they can keep you up half the night running underneath the groundsheet! However it does give you the chance to catch one! I did this merely to get a look at one of the fellas, by flipping up the groundsheet when he's under there you can work out his favourite escape route! Then sink an empty A10 tin into this hole.... next time he scurries into position lift the sheet- he runs for it and then ting aling aling....one mole in a tin tee hee! Anyhow took a piccie (didn't come out though) then relocated him to the other end of his run. An afternoon well spent devising my Wile Coyote stylee mole trap technique. :uu:

Sheep are the ones to watch out for.... they seem to have the right to roam anywhere around here.... you get them chewing on your guy lines or tripping over them taking your tent with them :-(

My Friend Johnny got attacked by a badger. He had just popped out for a lap of the field before bed, with his dog. And the dog and badger went for each other. Johnny only has one working arm after a motorcycle accident a few years back, so he wades in in his wellies to try and separate them, and the badger goes for him instead, clamps itself onto his toes and bites clean through the wellie. So he's stood in this field in the dark trying to shake this badger off his boot, trying to keep the dog away screaming at the top of his voice "help I'm being attacked by badgers!!! :aargh4: " Fortunately a couple of walkers on the footpath heard him and came to his aid.
But the bit i liked most was when he went out shopping for new wellies, and insisted that they had to have steel toe caps incase he gets attacked by badgers again! :rolmao:
I last saw him in the summer, and this is no word of a lie, he was sat swigging a can of "tangle Foot" from the Badger brewery!
Cheers

lol, the great sheep conspiracy,
i just heard of a wild pig escaping quite locally from a specialist farm who also rear ostriches[is that the way to spell it?]apparently it was a hairy critter like the ones from the hannibal film. supposedly just broke out and is playing havoc with the local pig farms.shouldnt think it will last too long though.
just glad there arnt any bears or wolves or snakes or poisonous spiders or scorpions or........... :-o

I thought we were all up for reintroducing extint (locally) species back to the UK? Must just be me then. Talking on wildlife, I saw 10 roes deer and 2 hares today on a 3 hour walk on the Somerset levels. Great stuff.

Most nights, we get badgers coming up onto our lawn and rumaging around. They set off the security light, but don't notice it. We can watch them all we like from 2 metres away!
