The Rainy Side of the Lakes.
Stonethwaite in Borrowdale is brilliant, and beautiful. There's a toilet block and cold water, and somewhere flat to pitch your tent. Victor collects the fees while he's out walking his hounds.
If you're in need, the Back Bar of the Scafell Hotel is within staggering distance.

Best official campsite in the Lakes, IMNSHO.

Cheers, Michael.

Do you know where I could find details of simple camp sites - a water tap and car access are all we need.
If your happy to make do with just a tap then my advice is to forget the tap buy a water container and a canoe and head for Scotland.
You can wild camp in Scotland and the best of the wild camping spots are those you find when paddling a canoe!!.

The Rainy Side of the Lakes.
What he says.

There are a few in the Lakes, but hundreds in Scotland.

If you can do without showers on a trip, you can have one of life's great pleasures when you get home; showering off genuine filth and worked up sweat and emerging clean and sweet(er) smelling.

Oh yeah.

Pipe and slippers optional.
